I am not sure if it is legal, but they looked at mine and asked no questions last week as I went through the military check point between Mexicali and San Felipe. JH

it seems that in Mex if you hurt someone, EVEN AN INTRUDER, you are at fault for damages to the turd.

my guess is no, not legal.

Legal. Yes. I once saw it for sale in the TJ intl airport gift shop.
That said...I'm sure you could find a cop or two that would say different, but they don't know.
I'm going to the military base today to get a permit for an in-house weapon and I'll try to remember to verify this about the spray. I have bear spray all around my place.

If the airport gift shop sells pepper spray, you might be in a bad neighborhood lol.
"in-house weapon"...interesting.

"Bear spray"??? reminds me of the newbie bear hunter who asked the ranger about bear hunting and tracking. The ranger said there's 2 species in the area, black bear and grizzlies. The grizzly being much larger and more ferocious. The ranger said if a person surprises a bear and the bear advances, use pepper spray and blow a whistle loudly. The ranger said the black bear poop is identifiable by twigs and seeds. The hunter asks what the grizzly poop looks like. The ranger said it's a much larger mass, smells like pepper spray and sometimes contains a whistle.:rolleyes::?:

Sorry for the hijack, I couldn't resist

Well, once upon a time, there was this redneck who decided to go hunting. After a full day of hunting, he didn't kill anything to he decided to pack up and go home when all of a sudden, he sees a bear and decides to shoot it. He fires one shot, but misses. The bear comes up to him and says, "You just tried to kill me!" But the redneck says no my gun went off by itself, but the bear does not believe him and says, "Now I'm gonna do you in the ass." So after the bear is done with the redneck, the redneck says, " darn bear, I'm gonna kill you." and fires again..But he misses for a second time. The bear comes up to him and says, " You just tried to kill me again!"
And the redneck says "no, I dropped my gun and it went off again". The bear doesn't believe him and says, " I'm gonna make you suck my pecker." So after the bear is done with him he leaves, and the redneck is real mad and fires a third time. But again he misses. So the bear comes up to him and says, " You didn't come here to hunt, did you?"

Wasp spray works just as well on intruders. Haven't heard anything about that not being legal. Shoots 15 to 20 feet.

I have a coincidental story for this post. I was in Imperial Valley in a uniform shop and saw a Border Patrol agent buying his uniforms, and asked him aboUt Pepper spray. He mentioned that you could use it in the US, I specifically had in mind my 15 year old daughter, and she has a pink one she carries in Mexico, mind you has never had to use it. He said however, most schools don't allow it, but he thinks it's legal in the US. The agent said however, that crossing the border both ways pepper spray could be construed as a weapon, and both Mexican and American customs might have a problem with it crossing it into their respective countries. Much to my surprise my daughter had left her pink pepper spray in my car as I was getting ready to enter the Sentri lane, I threw it out the window just in time!!

First time poster and baja nomad wannabe.

A word of caution as we had a canister of pepper spray explode in our boat this summer. It was very hot at the time and the spray was contained in a clear plastic boat bag which probably intensified the heat. Fortunately we were beached at the time and about 40' away but I shudder to think of what might have happened had this occurred in a confined space like a vehicle.

Yeah...you don't want that.
This company sells, as well as bear spray, a canister cooler just to avoid this.

He most likely didn't know what it was. I doubt the MX military issues it or trains the guys in it. Had he known he could season his food with it, he might have taken it. One tiny drop of the police grade (sold in uniform stores) spray will heat up a taco. The grade for sale in small stores is not as powerful. Spray a tiny bit on a finger and touch it to the tongue to get an idea how hot it is. Then imagine it in an eye.

TG,
Welcome aboard, neighbour :saint:

Nice to have another local Baja junkie around.

Six Mile is one of my favourite local areas....

Once I got a very faint whiff of bearspray when a friend showed me how to use it....thought I would suffocate as the effects on my lungs was horrible....haven't tried it on tacos yet:biggrin:

Many deterents have been discussed here. It is apparent, that just because
one Mex Customs or Mex Army guy doesn't ? it doesn't
mean the next won't. To me giving these guys leverage,
for a Mordida threat, is something I try to avoid. As usual
In Mex, the grey area seems to dominate regarding regs
