I don't know about the rates or quality but it's about 350 kilometers or a little over 200 miles below the border.
I should add that the food is excellent

George, do have a look at Baja Cactus Motel, next door to Espinoza's... Antonio is working very hard to have a high quality motel at affordable
prices. The only high pressure showers in town (in the new rooms).
Mama Espinoza's Restaurant has really good food, but most items are at gringo prices.

Mama's is a great place to stay. Very clean and your stuff outside is watched all night. The resturant is good. There is a small store in the
resturant, but sorry, no pink shirts with ruffles on the front. The other place David talked about is also okay and its $25 per night (unless they
have raised it). Hope you two had a great christmas. Have you sold your lot in Loreto yet?

Muchas Gracias
Been going up to San Diego on a regular basis, getting tired of doing it in one day!
Lot on Pipila is sold, just have to finalize things with buyer. Put it on Pam Boles new site and she had a buyer the next day....Also had a resident
of Loreto interested....missed it by one person..
I found a big store in Santa Rosalia with all the hot pink ruffled shirts you could want.......they even had matching long johns (or joans)....
Deborah and I doing great...Where are you Russ, up or down?? Hope to see you this season......
Thanks to all for info!

I am going to presume by this statement you have not seen any of the brand new, large rooms with all the ammenities of the finest motels in the U.S.,
including custom mattresses, 27" remote satellite TVs, huge showers with high pressure, and at last report still at the introductory price of $30-$35
night. 10% discount will be given off regular rates to Discover Baja and Vagabundos members. A room like Baja Cactus would go for $70-$130 in the
U.S., as I stayed at many motels while working for the Irrigation company out of Fresno.

Bring a Baja-related book and donate it to Antonio at the Baja Cactus motel to build up the new Baja library there - spread the word. One book at a
time - it will happen!!

Thanks!!!
Thank you very much for your nice words David... and wilderone... YES!!.. I have already begun implementing a system to be ready for the future Baja
library for ALL travelers going thru Baja...
Capt. George... I invite you to know our rooms on your next travel... I believe you will like them very much.
El Rosario is around 250 miles from the border... more or less 5 hrs straight drive.
We have the BajaCactus Motel, right next to our gas station over there. Our introductory prices begin at $26 dlls... besides all David mentioned, we
have 24 hrs. front desk services and security personnal all over the night.... we accept credit/debit cards and travelers cheques as well. You can
reserve by e-mail at motel@bajacactus.com
If for any reason we are full when you pass thru... there are other two options in El Rosario.
Mama's Espinozas Las Caba?as Motel (right next to our motel)... they charge $ 35 dlls for all of their rooms, front desk close at 10:00 pm.
Motel Sinahi (at the south end of town)... room rates start at $23 dlls., front desk also closes at 10:00 pm.
Let me know is you need any other info Capt. George.....

Mama Espinozas
Stay away from the 3 or 4 rooms close to the hiway - unless you love the sound of jake brakes as the south-bound truckers slow for the curve.

Just wondering.....at the Baja Cactus Motel are dogs allowed. I always travel with two Labrador Retrievers....they like nice places to stay.

Changing prices.....
I pulled into Baja Cactus about 10:30pm on the night of 3 July.....Myself and 2 small children, they were full but the nice desk clerk called Mama's
to secure a room for us...it was $45, and a God send....(I did have a knot in my stomach when first told Cactus was full!......what do I do now!?)
Guess Mama's prices have gone down since then? or maybe the $45 was holiday prices? Either way, the room was very nice (basic , but large, very
comfortable, TV , not Sat.....but a Spanish chanel with good music which was all I needed to relax and unwind)....and as I said good water
pressure.....in all fairness Cactus doesn't have the only high pressure water showers) ......first choice would be Baja Cactus, but if unavailable
Mama's will fit your needs while in transit.
