First time north through Mexicali

We will be heading out of Baja through Mexicali/Calexico for the first time. Any tips on finding the crossing and correct lanes? We will need to import our vehicle into the US, too, so any tips on getting to the correct location for that would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I crossed at Mexicali the day before Thanksgiving (2 1/2 hours) but the only useful tip I can give you is, DO NOT TRUST A GPS!
My Tomtom took my right to the border, but there was no access point. I had to take my best guess at multiple intersections finding my way several miles east to where I could get in line.
I am sure I missed a crucial sign somewhere along the line, but I don't know how far back from the border.

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

I assume you know there are 2 crossings, the original
old Downtown West crossing and the East crossing, which is about 7 miles east of downtown. Well signed coming no.
to the downtown crossing, st. runs directly alongside border
fence.4 lanes going along fence, maybe 6/8 US
customs booths, not sure
about car importation office, seems any US offices would
be to the right directly after entering US

You really want to go to the east crossing. If you are coming north on 5 you will come into Mexicali after you go under an underpass. Turn right to just pass the ken worth sign at the light. Follow that road for about 4 miles you will come to another underpass continue for about a mile farther you want to turn right on Argentina. Drive about 1 mile, thee border will be on your left. You will want to take the first left where people are turning into the border. There is a single lane to the left of the sentri lane. That takes you to a parking lot where you can park. At the end of that lot is thee bank to turn in your import papers. Then you can drive back out and get in line to cross the border good link Mick

Getting there is ALL the fun!
Ok being here is fun to

From all that I have seen and anguished over as to crossings, late morning seems to be the best time if you can do it. Early morning at borders like Mexicali and you might hit the rush of people coming over to work...this would be weekdays. Weekends the earlier the better.
