I have one of these...

Works ok and has been for several years now.
Replacement FILTERS are a bit pricey.
Mounts under the sink.
Very easy FILTER change.

Waterfixer System
I use this UV system:
http://www.waterfixercompany.com/model1000.html
and change both filters about every 6 months
In line and before the Waterfixer I use this to remove the large chunks and change when it gets dirty, about every 3 months:

If you want it for the whole house, this three filter + U.V. system works well:
First Fliter: 4.5"x20" .35 micron sediment filter
Second: 4.5"x20" Carbon Block Fliter
Third: 4.5"x20" Carbon Block Fliter
Followed by a U.V. light sterilizer.
The company below helped me based on our filtration needs. They seem very knowledgable. We've been using this filter system for about 1 1/2 years.
Water has been great.

You're talking about water supply under pressure and not simply water supply from the limited pressure of a tinaco on the roof, right?

For the system we use, you have to have pressure (pump or city). Won't work from a tinaco on the roof. You loose about 5-6 lbs of pressure with the
filters.

For a whole house sytem, I think there is some benefit to a system that reduces scale buildup. I am going to put in this system: http://www.aguadebaja.com/
It is expensive, but I like the fact that this is made for Baja rather than just a standard US filter system. Also, the RO systems seem to require a
bit of "wasted" water, which of course, is not ideal in Baja.

I had the Aguas de baja system, but after some research I found a lot of concern about the aluminum nano fibers used in the filter. The company I
bought our system from sells them, but only recommends using them when there's no other option for filtration.
I do have the "scale buildup" media. I didn't mention it because a lot of people think it's voo-doo. There's a lot of mixed opinions about if it
works or not. What i can say is that I have it in the main house, but not in the guest house. The main house faucets, etc. don't get scale or heavy
water spots. The guest house gets the scale buildup, and water spots. Other than that, i can't tell the difference.
