Advice on Verdugos in Los Barrilles
Four guys are doing a fishing-oriented road trip the last half of April and after a few days fishing out of La Paz, we want to go to East Cape for a
change of pace. Leonero is great, but too pricey. Anybody tried Verdugo's? We just need a place to stay for a couple days while we fish that stretch
of beach. Suggestions and advice appreciated.

I have been staying at Verdugos for years, in my RV as well as the rooms. I like it because it's family run and a very close to walk to some nice bars
and restaurants. It's on the beach with very clean but basic rooms. Small but nice swimming pool but I do not think it's heated so it will be cold.
Nice Palapa bar overlooking the ocean open in the afternoon and early evening. Pay a few bucks more and get an ocean facing room. One thing though,
it's noisy in the morning when the fisherman are getting ready to go out and then quiets down a little bit later.

A couple old guys on quads with rods who don't actually fish come through the hotel entrance from the camp and run crappy old 2 strokes that barely
run while they argue about the 4 corners pressure gradients for about an hour from 5-6 am then they argue about coffee roasting from 6-630 and then
they argue about the sunset from 6:30 on and go back to hide at 8am when people who are mad show up.
Best place in Baja,

I'm not sure what gnukid's post means?
For 4 guys doing a fishing oriented road trip you can't beat Verdugo's. Basic accommodations in the middle of town within walking distance of
everything you need, nice helpful folks, good boats and captains, beachfront pool, bar and breakfast restaurant, que mas quedas?
"Life is tough".....It's even tougher if you're stupid.....

I love Verdurgos. I have stayed there many many times since I was young and Martine has always been there. I remain close to Lil "Chico" Martine who
used to work there now in his 70's or 80s who has a place at the entrance of town where I visit often. Guests should be aware of the issues, the hotel
is setup so that the beach entrance road goes between the rooms. The restaurant is above the rooms.
Starting at 5am or before there are seniors on older 2 stroke quads that enjoy revving the motor as it backfires and echoes between the buildings (of
course) and they sit and chat (shout) with the motor running as they go out to the beach and back to look at the water. They enjoy a lively discussion
about the 4 corners and it's affect on the wind and weather that day as well as the merits of the temperature of boiling water as it percolates over
certain types of coffee beans, before sunrise.
The location of Verdurgos is in the center of town and somehow is in the hyperbolic cross section of every dog barking at night. At times, it's
impossible to sleep. It's certainly not peaceful as Baja is often at it's best.
But if you want to be certain you are in the center of the action, bring some ear plugs, get lots of exercise and perhaps you can catch some sleep at
night.
Come by for a visit and say hi to Senior Martine Verdugo or for a luxury spot go to Palmas de Cortez.

dtbushpilot is right on, great place to stay and fish out of and a very nice family run operation and affordable. Don't know what gnukids problem is
with it as he sniped a post of mine once for referring Verdugo's to others like you. I will say that Martin does not put up with the free spirits who
like to dry camp on the beach for free then sneak in to the park to take showers and use the bathrooms.
You could go to the North Beach arroyo and dry camp for free, dig a hole in the sand to run your waste into, sit around a talk about all your latest
super cool kite boarding stuff and how awesome you were out on the water, then heat up your pork and beans for dinner. Your choice
Different strokes for different folks!

been a while since they closed the airstrip..sad..sad..but as far IMO you could not pay m to camp there,,,noisy,campers/trailers on top of each
other...traffic and dogs all night long..did I mention Noisy as in NOT mellow and peaceful...carry on !!

Looks like consensus is clean, noisy, convenient, good value and just about right for four old Baja fishermen...we'll just remove our hearing aids
after dinner.
I will check on Martin, Eric and, most certainly, the bar.

1. The restaurant has not been on the top floor for many years. It is located downstairs on the main deck behind the bar. It is open for a really good
breakfast around 7:30 a.m. and closes a few hours later.
2. It's a fisher-friendly operation. A lot of fishers stay in the RV park and the hotel and the day turns on the fishing opportunities. The big front
gate opens about 6 a.m. and quads, trucks and the big Cat rev up before dawn and head out. It's my Baja alarm clock. When the fishing is good it's
good for the community. It's good for Baja. People also take their coffee out to sit on the deck and watch the sun come up and all action. For ocean
front, you can ask for a room on the pool side away from the bar palapa and up one floor if you want more privacy. The rest of the day is pretty quiet
until the bar opens. The rooms are clean, kitchenettes are available and there are lots of great places to eat and buy groceries.
3. The bar man starts at 3 pm. And he's a shore fisherman, too. The deck is usually pretty quiet by 7 p.m.
4. The old landing strip is over at the Palmas de Cortez Hotel. It's a driving range beside the golf course now, but helicopters, ultra lights and
desert racers still land there from time to time.
5. There are some barking dogs, but you won't hear them much up front at the hotel. The local animal group,has done a very good job of helping to
neuter and find homes for strays.
It's like dtbushpilot says and I hope you guys have fun. The family works very hard and takes good care of their guests. Rates, photos, etc. are on
their website and ratings are on Tripadvisor.
I'm Verdugo's every winter and gotta say it's good to be here,
