wine tasting IN Santo Tomas valley facility?

So i heard a rumor a while back that the Santo Tomas winery was going to be hosting wine tastings at the actual Santo Tomas vineyard in the Valley itself. Can it be done? Is this fact or fiction? i have struggled to find out any information on the subject, i repeatedly get forwarded to their tasting facility in Ensenada. Thanks for any info!

Drive up & talk to the guard. Ask to go in. It's a lovely place, bring a picnic lunch and pair it with one or more of their offerings. Yes, there is a tasting room.

There are several wineries in the Ejido Uruapan that are fun and the wine isn't bad. Santo Tomas winery is an odd duck. Their web site is nice but has no English translation. They do have tastings of both estate olive oil and wine. Zarcillos is a restaurant in the ejido across the way. Food is good. There is a nice hotel in Uruapan you can stay at. The Acambaro road side store and rest stop has great great lamb dishes. You can have a great time without the crowds.

Last time I was there, the Santo Tomas tasting room in the valley was also selling bread and cheese. It is a beautiful spot with a fountain and nice views.

I also second the recommendations of Zarcillo and Acambaro. The latter is my favorite roadside pitstop for a frosty michelada, chips and salsa, and a plate of their qeuso fresco. Their birria is excellent, and some weekends Juan will have a whole pig or lamb roasting out in front (see pic).

Zarcillo (see their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/zarcillo.restaurant/photos_stream?r...) is kind of a fine dining spot, which is sort of unexpected because it's in a converted house on a residential street in a dusty little ejido. The view is the swimming pool and waterfall/spa in the back yard, and is actually very tranquil. Their tortilla soup is great and the chef really knows what she's doing. I believe that she is also building a hotel nearby.

Last year my wife and I wandered around in Uruapan and did tastings at a couple of wineries. One is at the end of the first right after the highway turnoff -- a low stone building that you can see from the highway. I think the name is Palafox.

MD Winery

Turn off Hwy 1 at Uruapan. Follow the paved "main" road through the village till you think you are lost, then turn left. Look for the MD winery signs. Take the dirt road to the winery......it is worth it

I love Acambaro...friendly people and a great vibe. I'm sure everybody has their own "first stop" in Baja, but for me this is it!

The one time we stopped at Santo Tomas winery we weren't all that jazzed. Not too friendly. They should put the workers on commission so that they interact more.
We thought it unusual for a Mexican winery. Most wineries are very friendly
