Nice place. Is that sand as grainy as it looks?

Excuse me, but the premise of your ground cloth and sleeping bag next to a frigging MERCEDEZ is the true definition of:
DICHOTOMY.

With all due respect,
bb

{my edit) ....ah, to be able to sleep on the sand once more! I'm jealous.... ;)

Reminds me of Mike Humfreville and P.O.T. (Poor Old Truck)... an engineer from the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena who put landers on Mars and he drove a near wreck of a 2WD truck to 'fit in' with the locals in Baja.

Travelpearl and Mary Ann Humfrville chat, while the guys figure how to keep P.O.T. from losing any more parts on the rocky road!

I love the fact that there was some Don Julio on the hood. The man has his essential priorities correct.

bajabuddha , what's wrong with a Mercedes? One picks the most dependable mule for the wild. And those G500 are dirt cheap (preloved).
Yes, the motorcycle is simpler. However, no heated seats, no AC, no fridge, no cold beer.
By the way, the G has the beer opener built in.
