SNOOK - "ROBALO" - Caught in Conception Bay

Something for fishermen to remember.

I came across this scene while reviewing some videos from Conception Bay made back in 1987 and decided to make a 'captured' photo of a frame. This shows a large snook or 'robalo' caught by amigo rancher and fisherman, Manuel Diaz. Manuel caught it near Cocos Beach and gifted it to my neighbor, Bob Moore (in pic), for a fiesta at his Coyote casa. A fairly rare catch even back then, and this was the last snook of that size that I have seen caught in this area. Truly, another Back-In-The-Day event.

For some comparison, here's a snook I got in Mag Bay about 10 years later using jumbo shrimp as bait on a guide boat that we poled next to the mangroves. Man, those shrimp were giants! Hey, we almost decided to eat the bait instead...but the snook was delicious that night at our camp. Note: There is still great snook fishing in Mag Bay today.

Man oh man
Robalo is my favorite fish.
We catch them here when the estero breaks through.

There used to be a group of them that hangs around the launch ramp at Cabo.
