Well, if you have our current book (The Old Missions of Baja & Alta California), you will know the only location maps I could figure out how to
make before we went to print were the ones with numbers to show the location on the peninsula... no other detail.
The new book I am writing this year, on just the 27 Baja missions, will have better detail maps, such as you see above. Perhaps not maps you can drive
by, but to get a feel for the topography at the mission and where it is in relation to other points. I have an area map with its location on the
peninsula map... then a map of the area just around the mission.
1) Peninsula location
2) Region of mission(s)
3) Mission area
Here is the ones I made for Ligui and Comondu, for example:

I will have a page of GPS waypoints for the mission and vista sites described in the book... and a driving to direction page is planned too.

David, are there restrictions on using Google Earth for map publications? Seems like that would be another great way to show the locations. You have
the GPS points so they would be easy to pin on the maps. Just my 2 cents.
Living Large in Loreto. Off-grid and happy.

I can't figure out how to edit off stuff on GE that is wrong or un-needed for the book. I have the missions all pinned... in fact I see them in the
satellite mode, pin it, then switch to terrain mode.
The map maker site I use has some names I can't lift off, but they are not incorrect (so far), as in the case of San Miguel de Comondu. I would have a
pin there too, as a visita, but the location of the original visita is not exactly clear to me, if any ruins remain. I may need a trip there this
year!

Not sure... I am pretty happy with the map site I made the above maps with. Nick was asking why not Google, and my reply was that I couldn't edit what
was on Google to remove things like names. My desire is to have a terrain map I can show mission sites on, roads are fine, but not anything else
besides major towns, etc.
Here is the Google Map I tried out... I don't like the red balloon push pins either.
Comondu 1737+, San Javier 1710+, Loreto, and Ligui are pinned.
