Review of Tootsie's Cafe in San Ignacio- location updated

Our group had dinner at Tootsie's following a stay of a few days at the Kuyima campground at San Ignacio lagoon. It was an excellent meal!

Tootsies is located one block off the main plaza on the eastern side of "downtown". San Ignacio is pretty small and simple: as you're standing under the trees in the shady Plaza looking at the mission, cross the street to your right and go one short block to find the street with Tootsies. You can walk through the small alleyway and read the historical sign about the planting of the trees 40 years ago.

Tootsie's offers a large indoor seating area and a lovely outdoor garden patio with comfortable tables, and a few resident dogs and several frogs to add to the oasis ambience.

We especially appreciated the vegan and vegetarian menu options that can be hard to find in many Baja eateries (although Kuyima now offers veggie options- squash this week- that was pretty good).

There were 6 in our group (and 1 poodle) so we had a chance to sample a variety of items and also share tastes with one another. The fresh beet salad was scrumptious- the flavors were intense and enjoyable. I ordered one with my meal, and it was more than large enough to share with the table.

I also ordered the pesto pasta (sans chicken) and that was both delicious, and large enough for at least 1 more meal. Very generous portions.

Both the beets and pasta came with garlic toast. Both were delicious.

My vegan friends loved the soup and a spicy dahl witih lentils. They had wonderful flavors and were freshly prepared, arriving hot, both in temperature and spiciness.

Someone else enjoyed a Greek salad and... I don't recall the other choices. Maybe because the white wine arrived, perfectly chilled, and, since we were walking vs. driving back to the hotel (La Huerta, reviewed elsewhere)- I was more than happy to enjoy a glass...or 2...of delicious, refreshing wine vs. take more notes on the meal.

The wine choices are limited, but tasty. If you want more variety perhaps you can bring your own bottle. We did not ask if that was allowed, or if a corkage fee would be charged. (Does anyone else know about that?)

All in all: we found Tootsie's to be an affordable, delicious, and comfortable place to dine, with a lovely setting and wonderful veggie and vegan selections.

**** Highly recommended! ****

ask for it at IGNACIO SPRINGS INN = the yurts (her parents place)

or, drive into san Ignacio
go around the park
once you pass Kuyima, go straight and pass the park
turn left at the corner (you either go left or right)
you can park - you will see the Tootsie's sign on the right

She will be open 6 months and then closed the rest of the year.

Bon apetit

Last year we took a bunch of friends, most new to Baja, to see the whales and the sights. Tootsies was a big hit with everyone. Good food, good service, unique setting. Looking forward to 2016 return.
