ROAD CONDITIONS

Does anyone know what the road conditions are like from Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta? Any information would be helpful

The toll road from Mazatlan to Tepic is great. From Tepic its the slow and curvy road to Las Varas. Its OK to Guayabitos or so then usually really slow thru the San Pancho/Sayulita/Punta Mita corridor. The other option was to jump off the toll road and go via San Blas but that road has gotten so bad its not an option (for me) anymore.

I just drove the Mazatlan Tepic route last week.

Chippy, interesting information. I have often wondered how that road held up over the years. The last time I drove it was in 1986.

We ferried over from La Paz, and drove the coast highway from Mazatlan to Ziuatehejo (sp?) and the road was better than most of the roads on Baja at that time.

The explosion of tourism, agriculture, and new construction put a lot of money into Baja, while it appears that has swung the other way on the mainland.
