Santiago, there is likely a fuse inside the male Ciggy plug. One still needs a fuse on the circuit, but essentially yes, Eliminate the Ciggy plug and receptacle and any excess length of wiring and the fridge will perform more reliably and slightly more efficiently, as less heat is generated to heat the copper and ciggy connector contacts.

What I did for my Friend's ARB, was cut the provided 12v cord in the middle and installed the Anderson powerpole connectors in the 45 amp flavor. These are the same size as 30 amps but can accept larger wire but are more difficult to crimp than the 30 amp versions. 15/30/and 45s will all mate with each other.

He can now plug this Anderson connector into a connector in the powerpack I made for him that employs a very short length of 10awg to the fuse block for a reliable connection with minimal voltage drop.

When he lends out the fridge to a friend, they can simply put the original 12v cord back together again and let them use the original ciggy plug.

Santiago, your current system is better than most, as it eliminates the 12v receptacle in the vehicles which are usually horribly underwired, but alligator clamps can be troublesome too.

Almost all issues with 12v compressor fridges are in the power cord.

Fatter shorter copper right to and fused at the battery is best.

I contacted Whynter regarding cutting off the cig-lighter male plug and installing terminals that would bolt on to the battery. I asked them the size of the fuse I should install and got the following reply:

Thank you for contacting us about your Whynter FM-85G portable freezer. We are sorry but we cannot provide specific information on your customization but a fuse between the battery and the freezer may protect the freezer or the battery in the event of any issues.
Thank you.

Not much help there. I also asked them to tell me which compressor they used but no mention at all.

Double check those red and black wires to make sure red is actually (+)

I'd say go for a 15 amp fuse, but really one fuses to protect the wiring, not the device. Unscrew the end of the male ciggy plug, there will be a fuse inside, what is its rating?

Danfoss/secop compressors have lots of chinese clones out there now. I think Whyntner employs one of those.

Sounds like their customer service department is run by lawyers.

What does the cable end which plugs into the unit look like? Perhaps a new better cable can be made, and you can leave the original untouched.

Make sure the cooling vents and finned condenser is not caked with dust.
