July yellows in Asuncion

Just thought I would give a quick update on kayak fishing in Bahia Asuncion during July. This was cut from a report that I purchased up on a kayak fishing site that I am active on. I gave away 4 of these fish to close by pangeros and one to Shari. All others released.

July Update
I haven't posted much in the last 6 weeks mainly because with the exotic fishing happening in Southern California, my yellowtail reports seem like real yawners. The month of July was a simply outrageous month for yellowtail fishing down here in Bahia Asuncion. I caught a total of 56 yellowtail in the month. I always use the disclaimer that I don't count rats of less than 15 lbs but there were simply no rats to be had during July. No real tankers either. Everything in the 15 to 35 pound range.
The only disclaimer I will put on the month is that I fished a bit more than usual since Bob and Sven were down here for a week or so and they pushed me into fishing for several days in a row when I usually fish 3 or 4 times a week.
It was so great to have visitors in July. We had excellent fishing while Bob and Sven were here and the winds that normally push you off the water by noon, we're nice enough to stay calm til 1 or 2 in the afternoon on several days. The guys brought down some much needed supplies for me including fishing, household and food supplies. Thank you very much for that! Can't tell you how nice it is to have some nice cuts of beef in the freezer.
As for August, it is starting out good too. I was out on Monday and only managed one yellow on the first cast of the day and then 3 1/2 hours of nothing. I stopped on a high spot on the way in that was loaded with swarms of big chunky calicos and managed to land 43 fish on 43 consecutive drops with the Megabait. Then I hooked into something really big which ultimately rocked me. Would have liked to have seen that one.
Out again on Wednesday and the zone appeared void of life and I figured it would be another down day but I started metering fish in deeper water and ended up landing 9 nice yellows. One noteworthy moment came when I was fighting one of the yellows and a couple of YFT blew up on some bait about 50 yards away from me. No sign of them after I landed my fish but certainly hope for the future.

Don't know if you are still out of town Shari, but there has been quite a surge in water temp here. I was reading close to 76 yesterday and the models that I watch show water temp close to 80 by next Wednesday. Wahoo!

All the tuna have moved up... and they are sitting off the coast here in O-side

I'm heading down to Asuncion in a couple days, arriving 8/20 or so. Any recent reports?

I'm going to do mostly surf fishing and from my longboard...hoping there will be some YT within paddling range from shore! Safe paddling range for me is about a half mile or so since I don't know the waters.

Fishing continues to be very good here in Asuncion. My count for yellows so far this month is 23, all released. Juan has his Panga in the water now. I saw him at Isla San Roque on Thursday with a couple clients. He headed up to San Pablo and managed limits of YT for them. I personally do not know of spots within a mile of shore that are holding yellows but I hat doesn't mean there aren't any. My closest YT spots are about 1 1/2 mil s from San Roque launch. Plenty of chunky drag pulling calicos, barracuda and bonito within that range.

I haven't done a lot of shore fishing recently but I did hit the beach at San Roque on Friday for a couple hours. Got 3 orange mouth corvina, 1 corbina and one small halibut.
Stop by and say hi while you are here. Main Street all the way to the beach and I will be the house on the left.

dang chupacabra....looks like it will be flat next week which will be great for surf fishing but your board will prolly remain on the rack! Nice swell here today from the storm but really humid.

Hopefully that will make for clear water and good snorkeling!

You guys have the campground, right? I'll probably stay there a night or two if there is room.

Thanks for the great fish report, Ross!

I generally look on Big Waters Edge about every 3-4 days.
