Moving list - how detailed does it need to be?
How detailed does the packing list have to be? If we have 10 plastic totes, can we say towels, clothes, shoes in each or do we need to be more
specific like 5 shirts, 3 shorts, 2 shoes? I know the list needs to be in English and Spanish and to bring multiple copies. We mainly have clothes,
sporting stuff (paddleboards, fishing poles, tennis racquets) and some household items as we don't know what will be in our rental. We will be staying
in a short term rental so we can see/choose where we will spend the next 12 months.
We are heading down at the end of next week in our AWD Outback with 2 dogs, towing a small utility trailer. We won't need vehicle stickers as we will
stay in BC and will be heading down only with visitor cards since we have some air travel back to the U.S. at Christmas and in May. I don't know if
any of that matters but wanted to give enough information.

You should take the time to be as thorough as possible. I'm not sure how you're going to deal with the "moving" issue at the border so it's hard to
say what will be required on any given day.
What I mean is, are you going to declare at the border that your household goods etc. are in preparation for an eventual relocation?
Everything will depend upon your stated reasons for even being there.

don't call it moving, call it a long visit. A year is not moving. I mean, how much can you get in an Outback although they will be interested in
what is in your trailer. Have it marked and be prepared to tell them what is in it and to maybe empty for them. Dennis is so right...a crapshoot on
who you get that day and how bored they are. Luck with that....sounds like a fun year.........Nancy

When I did mine I was pretty specific. I put (1) box containing (10) dishes, (3) bowls, (10) coffee cups. I listed the couches and chairs but didn't
list the generator and ATV as I was planning to tell them these would not be imported but brought back to the States when I returned. I was never
questioned about these items.
I had a 2 page list of items with both English and Spanish descriptions and a dollar amount. The dollar amount was totaled at the end of the list. The
customs people I dealt with looked through the trailer (enclosed 16' loaded to the gills) and truck (crew cab long bed) got sniffy the dog to go
through and I was done. I'm sure they just looked at the price at the end of the list. Took 15% of that and sent me to the bank to pay.
I was less than a hour from pull in to pull out. It was about 10am on a Sunday morning at Mexicalli. I planned on the Sunday morning crossing to be
the time the guards wanted to put in the least possible effort. All in all it was a very easy, pleasant experience.
Now, the fat motororcycle cop a few miles down the road was a different story but that ended in the good as well.
