I always wondered why GM and Ford abandoned that market. Maybe I will check one out some day.....when they make it down to the 'well used' market
where I buy my vehicles.

I am a big Ford fan but drive a Dodge...I think there is a market for the vehicle types mentioned, depending on power plants and costs....Be nice if
one of the manufacturers built a basic rig, with a good torquey small diesel in it....

Anyone care to take my Ford? It has that V-10 pig-feeder under the hood; it'll tow anything, and pass anything but a Pemex. HORRIBLE mileage, pero

Does anyone really want a compact truck anymore?
Ever since the big three downsized their 1/2 ton pickup and Toyota upsized the Tacoma, it really has been a mid-sized pickup market, unless you needed
the carrying and towing capacity of a full-sized.
The Ranger seemed more like a compact truck.
Maybe someone should come up with a hybrid truck for urbanites to occasionally run to the beach/mtns with light toys or to HD for basic lumber? That
would seem to be a realistic compact truck use.

Love my Excursion V10. If I drive at 65 or below, I get 13 to 14mpg. Towing my 8000# boat I get 10mpg. I think that is pretty good for a 7500# rig.

Ol Smokey, 96 Dodge Cummins, 303000 miles still gets 15-17 with a 9.5 Lance camper and towing a boat....about 13 pulling my 32 5th wheel...Prolly do
better when it gets broken in....I need it for that kind of stuff, and towing bale movers etc....I would consider a smaller vehicle like the Ford for
a play vehicle...

I don't get involved in the "my-truck-is-better-than-your-truck" arguments. Moot point as far as I'm concerned.
When it comes to a preference, I don't have one. I've owned all at one time or the other.
Currently I'm driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota 4X4. It now has nearly 120K trouble-free miles on it. My last large pickup was an F250 SD. I don't miss it,
especially when I top up my tank. Regular gas; 18 mpg locally; 20 mpg on long trips (small block V8).
As far as durability we've driven dirt (and lava) roads here in the ID-MT-UT-NV area that would make our road to Pta. Bufeo (before pavement) look
like a super highway. Some of our dirt-road trips here have been in excess of 150 miles at a stretch with no pavement, either to cross or follow.
I think Ford is looking at its success with the Ranger in the past and currently in foreign markets where it does well. We saw more of them in S.
Africa and Namibia than expected. In fact, I would have been hard pressed to say which we saw more of: Ford, Toyota, or Land Rover when it came to the
overland routes we were on. Another thing, nearly all of those were diesels.
Since Ford is adapting the Durotorq diesel for the Transit, we may see that offered in this new Ranger. Now that may change my feeling about
releasing my Dakota.
