26" mountain bike??

One of the college scholarship kids asked me if I could find a mountain bike for him.

He is based in La Paz.

I said maybe and thought I would ask here.....since maybe someone has one sitting around.

I am guessing he wants to ride the bike to school.

Anyone?

MTB, road and even triathlon is huge in with locals in the area.

Bikes are expensive and hard to come by. Most are riding 26", which refers to wheel size 27.5" and 29ers are also common. There's lots of variation in MTB style, much like motos, e.g. Single suspension, double suspension, tire width, bike material, gearing, downhill, cross country, etc. Frame size is going to be important, so his height and ability to stand over the cross bar will be a factor to get the correct stand-over height for safety.

Best to check and see if he means this kind of biking, which is of the mountain variety in Los Barriles:

If his wish is MTB, there might be something available locally, if he can find riders.

Cheerio,
W

Very good info mentioned windgrrl, let me find out his height and what he wants the bike for....even tho' I sponsored the bike team way way way back when, I did not learn much about bikes except that they are expensive and extremely hard to maintain here in Baja Sur.

No matter what mtn bike we get him, he can sell it and buy another one that perhaps works better for him?
