Requierments for pets
I just heard they are asking for certificates of health for dogs at the boarder? I have crossed many times with my dog and never been asked. Anyone
have any info on this? What happens if you don't have it?

I fly from Alaska to Northern California and drive from there to Baja. Since I need a health certificate for the airline, I have it for the trip SOB.
It is only good for thirty days, but at least I have one.
In the last four trips I have made, no one has asked for it, either in Mexico or the US. I would see your veterinarian and if you don't get the exam
and certificate, at least get copies of current vaccinations and any parasite protection your dog will need.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

I so agree with nbacc - have it, any vet can give you a clean bill of health with updated vaccinations etc.

True and the Rabies shot is supposed to be with in the last year,,(,in Mexico it is once a year in the USA it is every three years),my vet helps me
out with this as he does not feel it is too good for the dog to get it that often. He also fudges on the Health cert depending on when I can get in
to see him before I leave. Having said that I be sure my dog is up on all shots. Another thought, Start the flea treatments before you leave as
dogs can catch things from fleas, Sounds anile I know but my dog means alot to me

I travel with both pets' full health records and no one has ever asked to see it. I don't buy the expensive $450 Travel Certificate for each pet that
a vet needs to charge for to fund his/her kids' college education. Can you imagine an extra $900 for each crossing? And the timing of all that?

If you are driving, they can write a certificate for thirty days. I was told that the airlines have a seven day requirement. My certificat cost $60
for the exam, $28 for the certificate. It is a domestic certificate, but at least I have one.
Does any one here have experience getting a certificate from a Mexican Vet that is acceptable for a US border check?

My certificate costs 20 bucks in the USA from my vet. $450???? Never heard that!!

Health cert/vaccination records
Agree re:fleat/tick/heartworm meds- keep them current, avoid pests.
After decades of travel Xborder with dogs and cats... no questions. (but carry the Information anyway!)
One year I asked my vet in San Diego to issue an "official" International Health Certificate for my pup, for under $50. No one every asked to see it.
Then I noticed all the vaccinations and dates are listed on the latest vet invoice, so now I just carry that, and ask the vet receptionist to print
out a new one a few days before I head SOB.
So check your vet's receipt- that may be all you need.

Thanks for all the input. No bad or good boarder crossing stories of the Mexican 2nd ary turning someone back cuz they did not have the Health
Certificate. I have traveled in Baja for 20 years with my dog and just carried my vet records and never been asked for them. But a friend with a
house in San Filipe who said that he had heard the Mexican Boarder Agents were requiring the health certificate now for all pets and it is a new
thing. I will report back and let you know what I find out.

We crossed at San Ysidro early this morning. Got rig and boat x-rayed and asked to get our Labrador out during process. No one asked for any paperwork
for her or us during or after the process.

Thanks, that is the good story I expected. But then it may be that they treat Labs differently cuz they are so cool!

I was asked crossing at Tecate last December. Basically the young guy inspected the camper and when I got back in the truck the older guy spotted the
dog and came up and asked if I had papers. I said yes they're back in the camper ( I only had vaccination certs ) He paused and said that's OK - vamos
.
