One is new in an unopened bag.

Without looking at the links I bet they wouldn't work on today's engines.

I do have one! Bought and used it on my very first Motorcycle trip to Baja.on a Norton 500 Single in 1960 or 61.

The air slots probably are just enough to keep the fuel air mixture below LEL. Lower explosive limit.

OK, I see this after discussing it in the 60's and 70's thread... Here are some images I just posted there:




How the air pump works.
The Spark Plug Air Pump utilises the induction and compression strokes of the normal four-stroke engine cycle. On the induction stroke air enters the cylinder through the breather slots in the pump. This atmospheric pressure neutralises the suction of the downward motion of the piston and prevents the normal entry of petrol mixture into the cylinder through the open inlet valve of the engine. On the compression stroke both inlet and exhaust valves are closed as usual. Meanwhile, compression of the air by the piston closes the seal over the breather slots and causes the ball valve to open, allowing the compressed, clean air to pass through to the tyre.
A reasonably good engine run at idling speed will pump 80lb pressure and up. More than one pump can be used from one engine when greater volume, not pressure, is required. The pump will do no harm and operates best when the engine is just running slowly.

My Kia uses a Mazda 2.0 Liter engine with double overhead cams. I know for a fact that the ECM would not let the engine fire after removing all the parts necessary get to a spark plug!

haha. I can still remember having vehicles that you could see and remove plugs without taking the engine halfway apart.

And I bet they have some value if put on EBAY?
True they only come with a couple of adapters. I suspect a home made adapter would be required for any modern motor. Just a little welding on a stock spark plug.
