Ferry La Paz to Mazatlan, Information Needed - Por Favor
To All, I have a friend at my house from Australia and his son. They would like to take the ferry over to the mainland. Has anyone gone through the
paperwork process down here? I really don't know to much about the process, Temporary Import Permit, Bond for Vehicle. He has the title of the vehicle
with him. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is that it works the same as at the border if you need a TIP. I don't recall getting a bond.

Call BajaFerries. They have people that speak English and can walk you through the process.
Not much needed. registration and TIP. Buy the Tip at the ferry terminal in La Paz.

The bond will also have to be purchased and turned in at a border crossing as he leaves the country. The length of the bond will be equal to the
length of his permit to be in Mexico.
If he is late returning this he WILL lose the bond. And he needs to make sure he is departing Mexico at a crossing that will process the return of the
bond. Not all crossings are set up for this.
Some people just forego the bond but they supposedly will not be able enter Mexico with another vehicle in the future.
This whole process is supposed to be a deterrent to selling a vehicle on the black market in Mexico.
Bond runs 200-400 US, depending on the year of the vehicle. Putting it on a credit card is highly recommended because there have been instances where
a cash bond was originally posted but when the holder of the permit goes to turn it back in, sometimes they dont have enough cash.
Re-rediting the credit card is usually done within 48 hours.
The TIP is a separate charge. It is a permit to operate a vehicle outside the free zones in Mexico. I think it's around 50.00-60.00 US.

If lien holder you may need written permission to take car out of country
Mex insurance (one time they also wanted my US insurance)
Be sure to know where to redeem your CREDIT CARD deposit
I would reserve ahead on line. We showed at the ferry terminal office the day before and no cabins available so we could only reserve seats in the
salon. Not comfy for an overnighter. It seems they hold back the VIP cabin for any big shot that shows up late. Well after underway we bagged that
cabin. Private baņo with shower. Comfy!!

Has anyone had experience taking a dog on the ferry? I have a small to medium sized pooch I would like to take along. I thought I read something
somewhere that you can take a dog which has to be in a cage, but I didn't see anything on their website about it.

We took ours.
Chihuahua and medium sized.
Then have very clean kennels on the mid deck.
Either leave them in the vehicle or use a kennel.
Not allowed food, just water in the kennels.
Went both ways and no problem.
Dogs were happy with their blankets.

The last time I went the bathrooms were tragic within an hour of departure. Worst I have seen or waded though in years. Wear boots!
That was some years ago though.

Also there are no outlets anywhere on the ferry - for charging cell phones, computers, tablets, etc.

That is good to know, how much did they charge you to bring 2 dogs? Do they charge more if you keep your dog in the kennels?

We took the ferry this summer. Got a room with bath and 2 bunkbeds. There was a 110 outlet in the room.

Whoa - something new - the 110 outlet. Our cabin had 2 along the wall twin beds - not bunk beds.
They did not charge for using their kennels, but you have to tell them in advance you would like to use them. - When you make your reservation.
Otherwise the dogs stay in your vehicle and you are not allowed down to the car deck during the passage.
