Sentri renewal?

My wife's sentri (and car) expires next year. How many months before should she start the renewal process? She doesn't want a gap without it. Is it automatic or does she have to go back in for another interview? What about the car?

Any other other info on the renewal process would be greatly appreciated.

Otay would be the office she would go to.

You can start the renewal a year before the old card expires. You will see the renewal button in your GOES account. Complete the application and wait. There is no longer an interview or vehicle inspection. Pay the fees when notified and then activate the card when it arrives in the mail. The process has been streamlined.

My old Sentri card expired in July 2016. I cross the border every week, so it's nice to know there won't be any interruption in my use of the card.

I submitted a renewal online, waited 5 weeks for a preliminary approval and made an appt for the interview at the San Ysidro office. I got a call from the SY office saying they have to reschedule the appointment and they now only have dates after my Sentri expiration date. The clerk said my card will remain active beyond it's expiration since my renewal is in process.

That's strange, I have never heard of anyone having to go in for a interview for a Renewal.

I renewed online this afternoon. Paid the $25. I will report back when I get notification.

The renewal application didn't ask me about the car that was already sentri registered. Is that separate?

My last renewal was processed with out me having to go in for an interview, but my husband had to go in. I don't believe cars need to renewed. I have never done that in the past. I have only dealt with my car when I was adding a new one or taking on off.

Your car is valid as long as your card. If your card expires, so does your car

mrfatboy good thing you renewed, as they are backlogged right now. As other have posted, you can renew up to a year in advance, both my wife and I have renewed ours going on our second time. First time we renewed, we had to go in (it was mandatory back then), second time (last year) we did not. Now I have heard that it all depends on if they feel your "at risk" status has changed. Your car status will not change unless you are not approved or you let your card expire.

bajalearner The first time I had reapplied, I got conditional approved, but had to go on two work trips abroad before I could get the then required appointment as there were no open dates. One was to Canada in which I drove (used my Sentri card and the Nexus lane), the other one was to the Dominican Republic (flew and used my passport at the Global Entry at the kiosks in Miami). Both times the customs agents told me that even though I had not officially gotten the green light, they said that I was good to go.

Update:

My wife just received her notice that she is conditionally approved for sentri renewal. It took about 6 weeks (over holidays).

The GOES system is asking for her to schedule an appt. First one available at SY was at 6am Feb 11. We have not scheduled it yet.

I guess she is considered "high risk". LoL 😃

Does she have to bring anything or is this just a face to face waste of time? The notice didn't say anything. Not even to schedule an appt. I just happened to see the "schedule appt" button highlighted.

inspection

When it is stated that inspections are no longer done, what does that mean?
I was granted a card and had my truck rejected on inspection.
Can I go back in time and get the truck passed?

I suspect you have to re-submit an application for the Truck.

I just got a vehicle approved without inspection, less than two months after I applied.

Why did it not pass the first time? Crack in the windshield? (pun intended) No front license plate?

inspection

Inspector rejected the truck based on the type of bed cover at first.
When I had argued that point to a standstill, a locked tool box completely stopped the process. The suggestion was made to remove all the bed lockup equipment. Worthless.

I would re-submit and see what happens. I'm not sure how they deal with previously rejected vehicles. Because there are no inspections anymore, this problem wouldn't have occurred today. So, in that sense, the prior rejection shouldn't matter as your truck would presumably not get rejected for that today. But, it wouldn't surprise me if there is some issue with re-submitting the application. There is only one way to find out...

I have no doubt it will turn out to be unpleasant.
