A CURP number is equivalent to a SS # in the US.
It identifies you specifically to the taxing authority known as the "hacienda".....which is equivalent to the IRS in the US.

if you weren't assigned one when you got your immigration status, you can easily apply yourself. I got mine in La Paz many years ago. once you find
wherever the current office is. take usual stuff, PR or TR, passport and electricity bill or such to show residence.

Yes and no. As opposed to the US, the taxing authority, hacienda does not use Curp, which barely started in 1996, they have always used the RFC for
taxing purposes (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes). Maybe someday it will be like the US SS#

That link is only good if you already have a Curp. The first time you have to personally go and apply or your parents or you for your children......
