Window Tint
I hear that people are getting pulled over and vehicle confiscated by the police for tinted windows. Even factory standard tint. Is this a big problem
or just people panicking ?

Never heard about this happening for factory tint. In La Paz they were making people remove after market tint and recommended I keep my windows down
because of the factory tint.

If you have nothing to hide, there is no reason to tint the windows.
In MX the bad guys tint their windows, not to be recognized.

sdraul- Not saying it has never happened, but it isn't likely.
Alacran- that statement is pretty off base. I hope you were not serious. I along with millions of law abiding others have my windows tinted and am not
a "bad guy"

I would agree with you but my Tacoma comes with a back and side tinted windows....my understanding is under Mexican law no tinting is allowed. Maybe
this is just a problem in TJ....several people have been stopped

Just another scam folks that comes around every so often. Citizens aren't stopped. Gringoes are.
If you're rolling up to a traffic stop and have tinted windows, especially the rear ones, I suggest putting them down.
This might be a law that's not enforced unless the cops are destitute and bored.
Pay your fine -- negotiate first.
People to hide have tinted windows? Someone lives in a cave.

Not True Lee. At least in La Paz at the height of the Cartel shootings.
Police where pulling everyone over...The only ones getting a break were the gringos.

And in TJ? Cops in LP and TJ historically scam gringoes with tinted windows more often than traffic stops looking for cartel shooters. Just my
opinion.

When you go in to renew your car registration, you must have your car there so they can see the windows. If too dark, no renewal.

They can't legally hassle you for a factory tint.

Can't legally hassle a tourist who isn't breaking the law, either. It's worth repeating: it's a scam to get money.

Two years ago I was northbound in TJ driving to the sentri lane on a weekend. Got pulled over for tinted windows on my 2005 F-250. The fronts have
nothing but the rears (crewcab) and my shell are tinted from the factory. I speak spanish and told the cop they are factory tinted and had him run his
fingernail down the window for himself. It was obvious to me he expected me to be a scared gringo and just pay up. I don't play that game. :-) Once he
realized I was not going to give in he walked back to his cruiser and left. Ha ha.
