Best and most exotic fishing you have ever done?

I am looking to go to an "exotic" location (Not Mexico as I live here part time) that oozes nice size tuna, (does not have to be monsters) Dorado, Wahoo, etc. Not interested in Sail or Marlin.

I have an obscene amount frequent flier miles just waiting to be used. At the risk of sounding cheap, I do not want to spend $1,000 a day for some package that will run me over $5,000 not including air fare.

Where have you been and what time of year did you go?

I am ready to go in the next couple of months so I don't have to wait until late summer, early fall for fishing out of Lopez Mateos.

Not to much in life is free and you usually get what you pay for but not into spending $1,000s and $1,000s of $.

Suggestions please!

One of the most fun exotic trips I ever did was in the North Island of New Zealand.
Rick Pollack's "Pursuit", which is a 65' sport fisher and you essential do a 6 passenger long range trip (I think ours was 5 days) out of the town of Whatkatane, in the North Island, about an hour outside Aukland

No Tuna fishing. This was for their NZ "Kingies"-- Yellowtail up to 85# !

These YT are actually a little different than Baja Yellows. They are shaped like Tuna. We caught live bait to fish for them using heavy tackle. Man! These fish pulled like tractors!

If you did not get their nose up when hooked you basically lost them to rocky pinnacles. But if you got them out of the rocks they pulled better than any tuna...

Great fun, great scenery (fished part of it near White Island- which is volcanic and still smokes to this day), and NA is a great country- they speak the Kings English.

He is very very popular, and books out well in advance, so for your quick getaway I don't know.

But remember the season is backwards right now, so this is end of their summer

Just Google Rick Pollack/Pursuit/Whatkatane, NZ

Excellent food, excellent, excellent excellent

Exotic locations are not cheap. But Giant Bluefin tuna out of Prince Edward Island Canada is definitely one for the bucket list. Tuna up to 1000 lbs are caught. The typical weights are from 500 to 900 lbs.

I`ve been lucky to fish a lot of exotic locals without breaking the bank. Sri Lanka, Fiji, Cook Is. Cairns to name a few.

I bring my own gear and fish with the local fisherman.

It may not be as comfy as a 1000 dollar + charter but I go to catch fish.
