Santiago
We're looking to visit Santiago for a coupe of days. Anyone with a recommendation for overnite stay. TripAdvisor only shows logging in San Jose or
Cabo. We have a pooch. A walking disability will prevent any difficult trails.
Every beautiful beach in the world needs a few condo towers - NOT.

Stay in Buena Vista or Los Barriles..We are about 20 minutes from there..

The BV and LB area doesn't float our boat. Is there anyplace to stay in Santiago? Don't need fancy although that would be a bonus. A/C not really
needed this time of year. Just looking for a short get away from our hectic, yawn, life in La Paz. Maybe someone down there would like to trade
casas for a couple of days?

Is El Palomar in Santiago still in business? Some Hollywood stars have used it as a hide-a-way, I think I read?

Last I was there in '95, El Palomar right in Santiago was a very magical hotel/restaurant; Errol Flynn used to hang there, and I could see why.
Definitely worth an investigative look-see.....
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

The place is a bit funky, but comfortable. They have been there since 1966. The restaurant is quite good. Since you mentioned walking restrictions, I
don't know if you would be able to see the prime attraction there- The Sol De Mayo Waterfall.

Don't know about it recently, but if old Baja ambiance is what you are looking for, El Palomar is it. Stayed there a few years back with Mom, the
restaurant is good as well.
Old style with a laid back vibe.

If Palomar works for you, great. We haven't seen other options in Santiago. LB and BV don't do it for us, either, but we enjoyed being in La Ribera...
more locals, smaller town feel, and not too far of a drive to get to Santiago and the canyon country above, or Cabo Pulmo to the south.

Agreed, Las Cuevas is fun. We keep meaning to go set up a couple of chairs at sunset to watch the bats come out, but haven't had a chance. Next time!

I stayed at the Palomar for a week two years ago and loved it. Sergio, the owner, is proud of the place's heritage (hollywood era) and is a great
host.
Sergio had a worn map that he frequently offered to show local destinations.....and mentioned that he was hoping one day to get another to replace
the ragged one. When I returned last year, I brought him two maps....a laminated AAA map and a laminated National Geographic map of all
Mexico.....so, greasy fingerprints won't wear out his new maps...
The restaurant offers great food and the staff are courteous. The rooms are simple but adequate. The restaurant opens up into la huerta at the back
which is a wonderful collection of palm , avocado, orange, pomelo (SP?), trees and offers an invitation to stroll around before and/or after your
meal.
I will stay there again in a heartbeat when in the area.....
