What If? (a little political humor)

News Flash!
From our Washington Office.
Direct from the White House.

In a last minute, electrifying Executive Order, President Obama rectifies a land grab by his predecessor James K. Polk. President Polk forced Mexico to ceed to the United States approximately 525,000 square miles (55% of its prewar territory) in exchange for a $15 million lump sum payment, and the assumption by the U.S. Government of up to $3.25 million worth of debts owed by Mexico to U.S. citizens.

The Order requires Mexico to take possession on January 19, 2017, prior the inauguration. The areas returned to Mexico include Arizona, Utah, Nevada, California, and parts of New Mexico, Wyoming, and Colorado. The new California would extend from Crescent City to Cabo San Lucas.

It also must return both the $15 million and the $3.25 million at an interest rate of .01% compounded annually since 1848. The repayment period will be 100 years.

The Gadsden purchase (a small sliver of lower Arizona and New Mexico) will remain a part of the USA, as it was legally carried out. Texas and parts of Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico are not included because they were not part of this Treaty of Hidalgo land grab.

President Obama stated: "We have made right a long-standing wrong and given back this area and its people to its true ROOTS!"

Mr. Trump was overherd saying: "I salute President Obama's decision and am saddened to lose these states."
However, later that night, during a Trump Tower celebration, people could hear shouts of: "Adios "Left Coast"!" "Clear sailing for 2020!", screamed from every floor.

------------------
Ah, what a story that would be! California annexed to Mexico! :cool up:

"a last minute, electrifying Executive Order" will be "Reparations" since "legacy" is a lost cause.

And what about us Alaskans? Anybody talking to Russia about unwinding that deal?

I have enough trouble with Spanish, I don't want to learn Russian!

Viva Mexico! How about we buy Baja and make it the 51st state. Give Puerto Rico to Cuba since their socialists anyway. Then all the Expats in mexico will become legal.

Why screw up Baja??

IF we undo the damage done in 1776, we wouldn't need worry about a different language.

Well, for the most part.

As to buying Baja Norte as once suggested by a radio host with his guest being the governor of Baja Norte, the governor brought up the fact that we hadn't paid for California yet!

Horace Greeley writes in the New York Tribune: "We can easily defeat the armies of Mexico, slaughter them by thousands, and pursue them perhaps to their capital; we can conquer and "annex" their territory; but what then? Who believes that a score of victories over Mexico, the "annexation" of half of her provinces, will give us more Liberty, a purer Morality, a more prosperous Industry...?
May 12, 1846

"...the president unnecessarily and unconstitutionally commenced a war with Mexico....The marching an army into the midst of a peaceful Mexican settlement, frightening the inhabitants away, leaving their growing crops and other property to destruction, to you may appear a perfectly amiable, peaceful, un- provoking procedure; but it does not appear so to us."
Abraham Lincoln 1846

Not so humorous....

Remember that the Spaniards were searching for the fabled city of 'El Dorado', and all that gold!

It was kind of the time share pitch of that era.

AKgringo, great idea! What's today "pitch"? Baja, Qintana Roo, Guanajuato...

Things worked out pretty Well

BELIEVE IT !

"...........Who believes that a score of victories over Mexico, the "annexation" of half of her provinces, will give us more Liberty, a purer Morality, a more prosperous Industry........? "

While we've had our share of relatively minor irritations with Mexico, including a manageable Illegal Immigration situation, the benefits reaped from our conquest/purchase makes it ALL worthwhile.

WE scored BIG !
