Road Codifions Mexico 5 from north of Guerro Negro
I have searched BajaNomad for any info of current road conditions 4/2017 from turn off Hwy 1 to the dirt road on Hwy 5 all the way to Algodones.
We are traveling at end of month just want to heads up on road conditions.
I am not sure if Hwy 5 goes all the way to Algodones, but that's where we plan to cross into the US. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Sylvialily

Lots of reports over on Talk Baja (facebook if you do it). 23 miles dirt road...graded....eastern most 6 miles should be open soon with more
pavement.
That being said...Lots of traffic for Semana Santa will cause wear and there is a race that goes through there the last week of April (actual race
date is Monday April 24)

gotta tell ya, CODIFIONS really had me going.
This past January, we went on 5 and it was slow-going but fine.

It is all relative as well. The road changes every week depending on construction and weather. I've traveled it 6 times in 6 months and thought it was
in fine shape, yet my buddy went on it once and said he'd never drive on it again.
In that pre-Google Earth and social media epoch, The Code was adhered to. It was based on a simple verity: if a locale had been transformational for
you, and you had put the hard yards in to get there and to learn it, to know it, why in gods name would you broadcast the news, thus ruining the
future experience not only for yourself, but for future adventurers?

No, Hwy. 5 northbound goes to Hwy. 2 in Mexicali. Take Hwy. 2 or toll 2-D east for the Algodones road north, before you cross the Colorado River at
San Luis.
There are numerous Hwy 5 reports here on Nomad. See the Road Conditions forum and Trip Report forum on Nomad.

Drove the dirt section last week on our way to Guerrero Negro and back in 1/2 ton pick up.
The 22 miles of dirt road took about 1 1/2 hours taking our time.
No problems. Rest of 5 in excellent shape.
Desert was in full bloom.
