Highway 111 s/b into Mexicali

Two weeks ago when coming north at Mexicali East the customs guy suggested we use Calexico East to enter Baja due to construction at the Highway 111 entry. We have to enter on Friday early afternoon - I know Fridays later in the day can be a mess.

So - anyone recently go in to Baja through the west that can comment?

I also crossed no. at the West Mexicali crossing on Mon, 5/15,
I take the 98 going west out of Calexico, so this info may
west be of interest, as the 98 is maybe 7 blks. no. of the
border, no construction from the border to 98.
Side note, was a motorcycle rally in San Felipe, 5/12-5/14,
all campgrounds around Rubens full, guessing 400+ bikes,
like a mini Sturgis Mex

There was a bit of costruction obstruction last month around noon, midweek. It was no big deal John, but Calexico police did have officers controlling traffic southbound replacing signals and stop signs. Maybe added 10 min in traffic delay.

Between the construction and the mood of the Mexican LEO's at the border crossing in Calexico at any given time, it has recently been hit or miss going south. Sometimes no issue at all, at other times it's a two hour wait, with traffic backed up all the way to Cole Rd or even further north on 111. Especially on a Friday afternoon (or any afternoon around 2PM or later for that matter). It's really a crapshoot. Unless you absolutely HAVE to go through the middle of Mexicali for some reason, I would highly recommend you drive the extra 10 minutes east and use that port.
