Pompano Fish Report #2

Today's catch...rather ho-hum..but I found the bottom!

Actually, I just wanted to move this fish report thing into it's proper forum column...which is 'Baja Fishing & Hunting'. More regular reports will follow.

Your first report was Excellent! I will be bringing my whaler down in May and will be looking forward to your reports. Did I misread your report; are you letting the hook stop the sliding sinker? Is the sinker just sitting on the hook next to the live bait?

RJM.....on the sliding egg sinkers...

Yes..you can let them slide right down to the hook....almost bumping the bait's nose. The reel is set on free spool with just the clicker to hold the bait. When the yellow takes the bait let him run for 2 - 6 seconds, depending on the bite action. I have made up 4 foot leaders in the past and kept the sinker above the leader, but I find no leader is more productive...and of course, fewer connections, fewer places to break. Good luck fishing!

I like that idea; I was using a torpedo type sinker and losing a lot of fish due to my poor knot tying ability. I will give it a try with the sliding sinker and round hooks. Thanks
