Whales n Camping Scammons area
driving down two 4x4's caravaning, want to camp and see the whales, prefer Scammons area, however if San Ignacio is better, were there!
Where to camp? Where to eat?? who to take us on a tour? and hotel/motel options if weather is not tolerable by the girlfriends??
Can we camp and see whales from shore?/ are there protected campsites where we can leave our vehicles?
crossing the border around feb. 27th
How many hours to Guerrero Negro from the border?
any itinerary suggestions? We plan on going as far as Mulege to see some friends. FIRST time driving Northern Baja, have experience driving via
Cabo and Mulege. Don't plan on driving at night, but long driving days are not a problem, actually preffered, then take our time going back North

do a Googel search of "whales San Ignacio" you Will get about 42 good articles with all the info you need.

My personal opinions:
If you have the time skip Scammons and go to Laguna San Ignacio. More pristine, less touristy, more close encounters. http://www.kenbondy.com/whales.htm
Contact Kuyima http://www.kuyima.com for accommodations, boats at Laguna San Ignacio. Camping and primitive accommodations available. The town of San Ignacio
is only about a 2 hour drive on a rough road, lots of accommodations there.
Guerrero Negro is about a 10-hour drive from Tijuana (444 miles). San Ignacio is about 2 hours more. Strongly recommend an overnight in either San
Quintin, El Rosario, or Catavina.

Scammons Lagoon
The drive out to San Ignacio lagoon can be pretty rough. But it is vary pretty there. At Scammons you can camp at Ejido de Benito Juarez campground.
there is a store there a resturant and whale watching pangas. you can also see whales from shore but they are out a ways, can only see spouts and
breeches. If I had time I would do both places. we are going down in 3 weeks.
Here is a link the whale in the pic. I posted stayed at the boat for an hour wouldnt let us stop petting it.

I woke up to whales in Scammons. I woke up to whales in San Ignacio. Given a choise, even though the road out there almost killed me, I would also
choose San Ignacio.
You really cant go wrong
