mexicali campground
Hey
Any ideas on campgrounds on US side of mexicali. Close to stores for last minute things we can't get in Baja? Also, best camping area near Puertecitos

U.S. side of Mexicali (Mexico + California) is Calexico (California + Mexico), Fun names, right?
All kinds of stores in Calexico... but there are all kinds of stores in Mexicali (including a Costco along Hwy. 5) as well as San Felipe.
There is a pretty fancy campground on the Río Hardy called Mosqueda at Km. 53.5 (south of Mexicali)+ 1.3 miles in (and a couple others along the way
in).
Just after taking the paved turnoff for Puertecitos (Km. 74.5) is Octavio's Playa Escondida... looks nice.
There are small palapas in Puertecitos for camping on the cove, as well. Plus with the fee, you can use the hot springs.
I have photos of all three places mentioned if you like. Sorry, no U.S. side camping info... I live too close to the border to ever use any.

Last year I got into Calexico after dark and decided to spend the night in the walmart parking lot.
Many others were doing the same.
Woke up early grabbed some fishing lures in the sporting goods section and drove the short distance to the border.
Could not have worked out better.

I also car camped at the Walmart. I talked with the security guy guard as he drove by me, and he appreciated the information and said my dog and I
were fine where we parked.
There was also a large vacant lot next door that I exercised my mutt on the next day.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Country Life RV Park
On Highway 111, it is 1/2 mile north of Highway 8, west side of 111 at Ross.
Advertises as an RV Park, which it is, however they have a small grass area where they have tent camping. We've used this place half-dozen times.
Last time we were there, the office closed at 6:00 p.m. and they wanted payment with a credit or debit card, they are trying to get away from carrying
cash. A little convenience store at the office. Far enough away from traffic that it's decently quiet. Clean bathrooms and showers.

If you don’t want to camp in a Walmart parking lot, then I recommend anza borrego desert state park. It’s not near stores, but I suppose you can
do any shopping when driving thru imperial or calexico on way to border. (ABDSP camping is in some ways better than much of the desert camping in
Baja)
If you like knuckledragging, you could camp in glamis
I suspect camping in Walmart parking lot is practice for skid row life?
