First Whale Watch tour of 2018 in Laguna Ojo de Liebre

We headed over to GN and stayed at Hotel Baja Oasis a couple nights ago. My grandson Izaak made immediate friends with one of our guests Sammy!

I am happy to report that the road to the lagoon is freshly graded and the whale signs are up to direct you out to the lagoon.

The Ejido campground is in great shape and it was so nice to be back there and the weather was perfect!

It seems the whales are arriving a bit late but we saw a couple whales in front of the camp spyhopping and about a dozen of them from the panga. I got several photo ID's of the newcomers. WE also saw a mating trio and a nice big breach!

We saw 3 mothers with calves about a week or two old and the best encounter we had was with this Mom who had a newborn who was only a few days old as it still had the fetal folds....those vertical stripes on it's body. Look at that cute little pug nose with the dimples!

The new mothers were protective of their new babies and we stayed a respectful distance away from them as is the technique this time of year to win their trust.

Here we are relaxing at the Interpretive Center with a cerveza after our trip.

More whales are entering the lagoon every day so I look forward to our next trip out on Jan.15-17. We have space on it so far if anyone wants to join us for some whale magic!

Great photos, Shari.

Hey, when is Izaak going to be back in Ensenada? Santa left a package for him at our house.

Thank you for the update- looks wonderful as always!

Who is managing the restaurant this year?

One of the original lancheros named Gil..he was the first person to lay his hands on a whale way back when....his wife and family will be running the restaurant and Noe's sister is in the ticket office...a great team this year!

If it is possible... I would love to be there this year.
