Road conditions around San Juanico, La Purisima, Los Comondus, ...
A friend wants to spend 2-3 days poking around the west side in her Suburban pickup (from Mulege). Looking at San Juanico, La Purisima, San Gregorio
and the Comondus. Where are the best roads to these places?
Muchas gracias, amigos!

Best roads would be the paved roads. San Gregorio is a short ways off the paved road to San Juanico (if it's the San Gregorio I am thinking of). The
graded road between La Purísima and Comondú is very good except rough where it drops into the Comondú valley/canyon. 2WD ok.
These maps should show the area of interest. Black lines are paved roads, other than Hwy. 1:

I drove the road from San Isidro to San Jose Comondu two weeks ago and it got quite a bit of damage in the fall storms. Anything that wasn't
perfectly flat across the mesa had damage, especially where the road went up or down with the fall line. It's been repaired with, most likely, a
front-end loader so it's passable but not "very good". The repaired stretches are equivalent to the steep sections up/down the canyons at each end.
4WD not required but helpful to prevent digging up the road. Good clearance is a good idea.
I also drove the road SW from San Javier to Santo Domingo and it had some washouts in the arroyo crossings but they put a lot of sand down over the
rocky sections to smooth it out. Overall, not in bad shape, I probably averaged twice the speed on this road as I did on the above road.

Perfect! The maps are terrific. Was hoping I could count on you, David. And thanks for the update on the dirt roads, bkbend. We took the first road
you described years ago and it was a nightmare. Always wanted to take the second road, but the jeep has gone away...

De nada. All 30 of my 2018 maps are posted in the Road Conditions forum here.

So is the "High Road" from San Ignacio at San Juanico the prefered route now?
