would love to bring in some bare root cactus...they have gotten too big for home in US...would like to plant in my yard down there......permit needed? asking for trouble and further search?

Most if not all living plants are restricted for import here. Worst case scenario though is they turn you around and you get to wait in line again. You may wish to hide them.

what..no body else has brought cactus to the desert???

Taking a cactus to the desert is a lot like taking a book to a library. Probably not worth the hassle. Why not just go to your nearest nursery in baja and get something that you would like in your garden down there?
