Last month, I paid in dollars and it was just under $29. So 533 pesos at 18 pesos per dollar makes sense.
Thank you A?ejo Coca for your positive experience report!
I guess I have been lucky not to ever get behind a line of tourists!
In all the times getting the tourist card (Tijuana, Tecate, Mexicali) I was usually the only one doing so, as cars streamed across the borderline,
without stopping. One time, a walking tourist came into INM at Mexicali while I was in there... and he was British.

Depending on the border crossing and the time of year, the online FMM can be worth it.
Maybe this only applies to the mainland but, from mid November through New Year's, the BANK line can get very long for paying, in addition to the INM
line. So many relatives coming down for the holidays from the States.
If you show up for only a stamp at the INM line, the whole process is really quick. You can often jump to the head of the line for the stamping
process.

There is practically no waiting for stamping in El Chaparral. Maybe only when tourist bus arrives. A big hall with half a dozen booths working,
during peak time. Last time I asked INM guy in some side window - he was doing nothing, must've been some sort of supervisor, he told me to go to
"Marisa" booth. I found young Marisa flirting with another INM guy, both rather enjoying the process but otherwise unoccupied, so after waiting for a
minute I decided to interrupt

Exactly the way it was for me there. I did have to wait for the bank teller to show up as he was on a potty break, I guess... not even 5 min. Lot's of
INM kiosks/ booths manned as if waiting for a mob... Great government jobs, eh?

Maybe not unique to Mex, but I've seen that scenario or
something like it. Bus driver doing that dance with
young female passenger. Immigration guy sound asleep
at the TJ Bus Station, La Paz ferry ticket personal doing
her nails, ignoring our ?'s. But last time thru Mexicali,
Imm guy filled out our fmm's, maybe because he took pity
on older Gringo' s looking at the small print on fmm's
