Desert Sun: The superbloom has started in Mexico. Pack your bags for San Felipe

About 20 minutes south of the seaside town of San Felipe in Baja California, purple wildflowers are exploding amid saguaro cactuses in the Valle de
los Gigantes, or the Valley of the Giants.
The sweet smell of wildflowers permeates the fresh air off the Sea of Cortez. Areas along the highway heading south of San Felipe, for about 60 miles,
are also in full bloom.
In the next few weeks, the bloom will slowly move north — bit by bit — and eventually wildflowers will bloom throughout the California desert.

Sad they get the data so wrong when they want to promote it.
They are cardón not saguaro cactus.
The cardón can grow much larger and has multiple branches typically, coming from near the base of the main trunk.
The saguaro (Arizona cactus) often has only a few branches and about halfway up the main trunk.
"About 20 minutes" isn't very good directions, either.
The entrance is at Km. 14+ or almost 15 miles (24 kms.) from downtown San Felipe (Km. 0 is 10 kilometers from downtown on the airport road).

Pretty crazy the bloom going on right now. At Christmas it was off the scale but last week was super off the scale. Not so much going out to Bahia de
Los Angeles but it was very green out there none the less.

Would anyone like to predict the best time this year to see the Desert Super Bloom.
And where is best.
I have a trip coming in a few weeks to a month.
I think I will try El Rosario and Catavina area in a few weeks and see if it's happening yet.

I am trying to get my Kia in shape for a road trip, because right now is the time to go! It is not likely that the whole peninsula will bloom at the
same time, so no matter when you pass through you will be too late for some, and to early for others.
My route will include the road south from B.O.L.A. to San Francisquito then out through El Arco.
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!
