I stand corrected. Actually that was a copy/paste of a file name -- I was making GPS files for Lowrance for the COPS effort at the race, and, well, it crept into Nomad.

The link for a website that has gps files for the majority of past races in Baja was posted on this forum several months ago and I made the mistake of not bookmarking it. Does anyone have that link?

When I go down through all the races listed, it really makes me feel old!

The 1973 Baja 500 was not a Score race (as listed)... It was the final NORRA race before BSC (Mexico) took over.

In 1974, BSC (Baja Sports Committee) had a Baja 500 but nobody came (hardly) after the huge fiasco at La Paz at the end of their first Baja 1000 the previous year (they had no money to pay the winners, it was "lost", lol). NORRA put on a Parker Dam 500 in June 1974 to siphon away racers from Mexico after they were booted out. The 1973 Baja 1000 was the first off-road race I went to see in person. I posted a Super-8 movie of the racers going by on YouTube that I filmed.

The Baja norte state government came to Mickey Thompson and asked if his new (SCORE) "Sort Course" racing organization would run the races in Baja.
Mickey agreed and SCORE's first Baja race was the July 1974 Baja Internacional. NORRA would not release the name "Baja 500" to Score for many years.

The November 1974 Baja 1000 did not run because Mickey said he did not have enough time to put it together, following the great success of the Baja Internacional. 1974 was the only year there was no 1000.

1979 was the first year for Score to run a race to La Paz as they had worked out the details with the Baja Sur government. That was the year I was a co-driver!

Rumor has it that Zak Langley, driving Evolution Unlimited Truck #50, finished first in class, second overall.

sweet truck, was one of the first that came through when I was watching up by the Comondu-San Javier rd on Tues

I eventually moved down towards town where they were cutting back off the pavement of the San Javier - Loreto road and back onto the dirt, the turnoff there is covered by a big dirt mound and hard to see, after I watched 2 guys miss the turn I spent the next hour or so drinking beers and waving/pointing fellers in the right direction!:lol:

Got a lot of thumbs up! Those guys owe me a beer!
