Cost effective 3 month auto policy
I usually get auto insurance through Baja Bound but they only write 6 month policies and I'm only going to be in Baja 3 months . Anyone one know of
companies writing a 3 month policy that might save some $?

Brenies Mex Ins in Rosarito Lia per year about 120.00 not 3 month but cheap. Yes it is good Ins.

You can also suspend/cancel your US car insurance and save enough to almost make this a wash....correct?

Has Baja Bound changed their policy writing? I used to get whatever time I wanted ie one or two weeks at a time.
Or you could call this guy

Don't know about cost, but Discover Baja for yrs. had
a 90 day policy, good for 90 days in a calender yr., don't know
if that is still available, Bajabound did also. I assume you contacted them, as these policies are not necessarily stated

Nope. The special Mexican insurance for tourists requires you to have a valid U.S. policy.
Check Baja Bound again on price. The annual policy (for 90 days in Mexico) or another option may be cheaper than a daily or other period policy from
others?

I've been traveling for 9 years on mainland Mexico and I believe I did all my research. Possibly it's allowed when I purchase my 6 month policy? I'll
check again, but I asked this specific question last year with the policy. It's ING Seguros

I think what state the vehicle is registered in makes a difference. I have vehicles registered in CA, and AK, both insured by the same company
(separate policies required!).
When I go north, or south seasonally, I put the cars in a standby mode. CA sends me a suspended registration notice, AK doesn't!
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

Yes, I was speaking as a Californian... Anytime I bought Mexican Insurance (from Discover Baja or Baja Bound) they needed my U.S. (State Farm) policy
data to complete the transaction.
I think Mexico makes sure you have U.S. coverage is sort of a guarantee you aren't leaving or selling a car in Mexico (forbidden for FMM tourists)?
Otherwise, (*I believe) you would need a more expensive "full-time" resident policy and not a typically sold tourist policy??

Sounds like a liability-only policy???
Newer vehicles, ones still owned by the lender, require full-coverage.
One year calendar policy (for up to 3 months total in Mexico) was about $400 for a $32,000 vehicle, with legal aid, and a top-rated company. At least
I think it was for me a few years ago when my truck was newer.

We get our insurance from MexUs in Calexico. Last year it was $345 US for collision insurance on a 2011 F350. It was cheaper to get 6 months rather
than 3 months. Go figure ?
In B.C. we get a rebate on our insurance for the time we were in Mexico. Just have to keep some receipts to prove you were there. It basically costs
you nothing after the rebate when you get back to Canada.

As far as full coverage I did have it from bernies with my brand new at the time Toy 2012 pre runner . At 400 a year how I know there good. 3 months
old truck (I was not driving) 10,000 DL in repairs . They PD it never any question of USA INS or Mex green card. Only thing does need current US reg.
On my 20 year old junks lib is all I need they are SD plated but no USA ins.
