Spoons: with or without ? (swivels)
Ok guys,
I'm always confused, I see and hear people saying tie the spoon directly to the line, or it won't have the correct action.
On the other hand, I hear people say use a swivel, it will avoid the dreaded line twist, and it does not affect the action / effectiveness of the
lure.
so I figured - why not come to the horses mouth.
any opinions, information,?
also - different from the beach as opposed to trolling?

You'll probably get a 50/50 split of opinions and not solve your dilemma. I'm in the direct tie camp but I tend to troll or retrieve very slowly to
keep a spoon near the bottom. I get a little twist (but not problematic) and I suspect that a fast troll would get you more twist.
In my case I tend to use other lures more often which do work better when tied directly so if I switch to a spoon type I don't have that swivel
already on the line and just don't bother with it.

I tie a swivel and have a 4' to 5' leader to the spoon...
Since I've given up all hope, I feel much better

snip em off and pitch em......if you feel you need one while trolling at least use a quality black one

Using a shiny swivel will get you bitten off by sierra and other toothy critters.

Swivels work good for Krocodiles. For Kastmasters, install a split ring if there is not one already, and tie to the split ring, no swivel. I like
using a Palomar knot for tying on spoons and hardbaits.

I use a swivel then add a 4'- 5' flourocarbon leader to which I can run a spoon or slow troll a live bait. Not really required for a live bait but
once they die they will spin like crazy

I use a double-eye black swivel with 2'-3' of heavy leader (like 30 lb test) in between the swivel and my crocodile. Schooling fish like barracuda
and sierra will hit 2-3 fish at a time trying to get the 'bait' for themselves, check the leader often for frays.
I don't have a BUCKET LIST, but I do have a F***- IT LIST a mile long!

GO WITH SWIVELS!!!!! The issue is not necessarily the action but it is about line twist, especially with a spinning reel. If the line gets a severe
twist it will make fishing near impossible not to mention weakening at kinks too.
