Transporting or shipping veterinarian supplies?
Hola,
I Just bought a house in Los Barilles. I'm having trouble posting on this site. If this goes through, I will elaborate on some questions that I
have. So this is a test.

Hola,
After 3 tries, success! After 8 years of fishing East Cape, I have fallen in love with Los Barilles. I have ahouse in escrow across the street from
Los Pescadores hotel. Plenty of room to store my boat. I am a recently retired veterinarian and would like to do a little volunteer work while I,m
there. I plan on driving down for the first time when escrow closes. My question is I would like to transport possible veterinary equipment,
supplies, and medications like flea products, vaccines etc. Are there restrictions on this? Can I have these things shipped to me from my vendors in
the states? I know that my questions are out of most everyone's wheelhouse, but maybe someone could point me to the appropriate regulations. I've
been a lurker for 2 weeks and I really like the vibe on this site. Thanks in advance.

Saltydoc - Enjoy Los Barilles. That's awesome that you will volunteer. The animals in Baja definitely could use your help. Maybe try a local clinic

probably a good Q for a mexican vet. Go meet one in your new town and ask him/her your Qs about vet meds/vet equip availability/import in mexico.
you can usually import small qtys in your vehicle -- if the qtys are small they don't ask Qs at border. if you got many boxes or packed truck when
xing border, you are likely to get stopped and inspected at border, and they are likely to make you follow the import rules. import rules for meds
and med equip are probably written down somewhere...
human meds are usually cheaper in mexico, maybe same for animal meds.
equipment may be more readily available or cheaper in usa?
there are fly-in docs and dentists that probably import when they do their charity trips, maybe some nomad has a contact...
p.s. nomads are seemingly required to post photos of their trucks, dogs and fish trophys. seems to me that a vet is obligated to post a photo of
their dog(s).... bonus points if you can capture your dogs, truck and fresh dead bloody fish all in the same photo. extra bonus points if the same
photo has beer and boobs.

I used to travel with a wonderful old dog that required care in La Paz, and in Todos Santos. I was very pleased with the competence, and pricing of
the services in both locations!
If I had needed to order more of the non generic veterinary meds she required, it would have been almost double the US price! I hope you find a local
vet in L.B. to talk with.
The large dog I have now is still young enough that she doesn't need regular meds, but she is an accident looking for a place to happen, so maybe we
will meet some day!

If you really love it... then know how to spell it: BARRILES
The best way to remember that it is two Rs and not two Ls is that two Ls (in Spanish) have a y sound as in yellow.

Saltydog, good luck with your new home. There is a very active rescue group in town called Cortez Rescue, they have a facebook page I believe. They
work with a local vet and provide hundreds of spay/neuters as well as assist rescues. I am sure they could provide information and maybe help with a
link to the local vet. That might be useful.

I have colleagues that go to Mainland Mexico for spay and neuter clinics. I know for a fact that they are not licensed in Mexico to practice
veterinary Medicine. I have no intention of setting up shop. I'm retired. I was hoping to donate my time and some veterinary supplies for a worthy
cause. I was hoping there was a veterinarian or medical doctor on this board that could give me first hand knowledge. I appreciate all your
responses and replies.

Your best bet is to contact the rescue, and I'm sure that they'd be more than happy for your help, as all rescues are.
