that information is not correct.
Just last night I put numbers together to whether it is safe to stay in La Paz.
To put things into perspective - the infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants below. Using the official Mexican government numbers. I believe they are
too low - but that’s all we have.
Its not looking too bad.
La Paz 17 (all per 100k)
CDMX 19
CSL-SJD 62
Tijuana 224
Mexicali 313
Cabo looks bad and Tijuana - Mexicali are especially hard hit
Around the world numbers for reference:
L.A. 108
NYC 2827
Wuhan 678
Bergamo 8083
Munich 326

Harald, the graph in Noticias is also per 100,000 inhabitants and based on federal numbers.
I myself was surprised to learn that BC with places like Tijuana ranks lower than BCS. Apparently, federal numbers depend on what "federal authority"
they come from.

the fed numbers are different because they use the entire population vs infection rate. They are correct though. Since the BC population is much
higher than BCS, the number per 100k looks better.
Same in BCS. They use the population of the entire state to calculate the 100k.
By spreading out the numbers over the entire states the infection rates look lower. Politicians love that.
As a side effect you get a higher rate for BCS than for BC.
That is why I sat down last night and calculated the numbers for the affected cities.
Again, the infection rate in the north is much much higher than in the south cities.
La Paz 17
Los Cabos 62
Tijuana 224
Mexicali 313

I am curious about how the population numbers are calculated. Does Mexico conduct a periodic census, or is there a national registration system?
I wonder if they include any figures for foreigners living there who have not become citizens?
If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!
"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

It does have a census every ten (?) years that was running this year until it got shut down with everything else. It counts all residents as far as I
know; it counted us and we are not citizens, just year-round residents. No questions about immigration status, so I don't think that matters.

census is just underway
they visited me a couple of weeks ago
recorded households get a door sticker
foreigner or not is not on the questions list
like the tax system, census is very accurate
well, the government collects accurate data
whether they publish them is a different story
both La Paz and Cabo San Lucas seem about a minimum of 50k short in official numbers
