Current situation in Ensenada

I read a while back that Norteamericanos were being turned back north of Ensenada without proof of residency. Anyone have current information on that? Your thoughts on politics or epidemiology will not be helpful, but your informed and sincere replies about whether I may be turned around after hours of driving southbound will be very much appreciated. Salud to all.

here's some info about the stop at El Sauzal. The main purpose is covid-19 screening. It doesn't address residency requirements, but you may find the info helpful.

and

"He added that from April 1 to June 7, a total of 157,478 vehicles have entered the port through this filter; Of these, 83 thousand 931 are local, one thousand 484 national, 14 thousand 990 from different parts of the Mexican Republic, and 57 thousand 73 from Baja California.

As of the date of this presentation, 8 thousand 202 units had been returned and 165 thousand 680 had been verified. "

Hey DanO (as in the surfboard brand?) -

A family member of mine passed through there Friday mid-day (Jun 19) and said he experienced no checkpoint on the toll road around San Miguel / El Sauzal / north side of Ensenada, despite having paper work read and expecting to be stopped.

Another family member experienced that checkpoint about a week prior, so it sounds like they have taken it down, or are intermittently shuttering it, or who knows, its Baja?

I avoided Ensenada heading south two weeks ago, so this is not directly on point. On the San Felipe side, I showed my residency card. That was not enough. I then showed proof I had paid my property tax bill in Mexico, and I was let through.

The link SF&H provided said that the "filter" is being staffed by volunteers! If so, I can imagine that staffing could be intermittent, and variable results according to who is on duty.

I wonder what sort of enforcement backup they have?

honestly I don't know what to believe:(

DanO this yesterday from the ensenada fb page......

My wife and I went north of the border for the first time in three months today. It was largely uneventful.

The sanitary filter in El Sauzal was in place and operating when we passed it at 9:30am, and again when we came back through around 4 pm. We had our masks on as we reached the filter and greeted them in Spanish. They took both of our temperatures, no questions, and we headed home. FYI.

DanO: Regarding your 'footer'; I saw a video on 'Norman's Rare Guitars' with Dweezil who has a verified Hendrix guitar that Jimi gave to Frank. Pretty cool. See it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCQbXYs-mak

Chrome browser translation:

Publication date June 23, 2020

TIJUANA, Baja California.- Ensenada is about to become the red light of the pandemic if they continue to report confirmed cases, reported Health Secretary Alonso Pérez Rico.

According to the figures presented by the official, the Port registers 563 accumulated cases, 26 new and 101 active compared to Mexicali, which had topped the list for several weeks.

“The cases in Mexicali are already going down, we have less than 500 active cases, it is one of the first times that we have this number in the last 14 days. The scenario in Mexicali is that we have fewer and fewer patients in its fever clinics and patients who go to the emergency room or are the Covid units and we are seeing that the opposite is happening in Ensenada and San Quintín, we have more new active cases, "he commented. .

Likewise, Pérez Rico reported that the hospital capacity in Ensenada is 42.31 percent in the HGE, 65 percent in the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and 30 percent in the military hospital unit.

"We have to prepare for what is going to happen in Ensenada, that is the trend we are seeing and we have to start preparing our facilities, the staff. So that precisely by having a rebound there. Please, I ask the residents of Ensenada and San Quintín to stay in their houses, do not go out, ”he ruled.

Despite the fact that Mexicali and Ensenada remain on high alert, Tijuana, Tecate and Rosarito cannot claim victory, as they could face a second wave of confirmed cases if citizens stop applying preventive measures.

In this regard, the secretary said: "Tijuana we are monitoring that we do not have a regrowth, very important, we open essential and non-essential activities. "

Currently, Baja California reports 8 thousand 2 accumulated confirmed cases, of which 2,614 are from Tijuana; 4 thousand 360 from Mexicali; 563 in Ensenada; 208 from Tecate; 68 in Rosarito; 128 San Quintín and San Felipe has registered 61.

Regarding the number of deaths, the State registers a thousand 694 deaths, of which 807 belong to Tijuana, 730 to Mexicali, 78 from Ensenada, 60 from Tecate, Rosarito has 11, San Quintín with 7 and finally San Felipe reports one death.

Pretty sure they will take your pesos and give you a room key if you can make it to the lobby. Finca Altozano is doing takeout on weekends. :saint:

Matt,
Maybe if the Coral has a Fourth fireworks show I could sneak a couple rockets in and fire them off. I think we had several left over from the time we bombarded your camp at La Gringa

According to http://www.bajacalifornia.gob.mx/coronavirus

there are more active cases in Ensenada (129 cases, pop. 321,592) than TJ (94 cases, pop. 1,524,330).

I will not be testing the system!

Perhaps I should have asked what kind of "support" is being provided , if indeed the filter check points are staffed by volunteers?

I went through the filter yesterday. My wife was driving and wearing a mask. We were waved through. Stay in the right lane. No one was there so they motioned people to proceed. I suspect they have grown tired of it and just wandered off...

Tranquilo people, tranquilo.
