Mexicali has a new heat record, August 14, 2020

50.2°C= 122.36°F

From "Mexicali en la Mira", Facebook page. Google translation:

The highest temperature in Mexicali since 1981 is registered with 50.2 ° C.

The National Water Commission (CONAGUA) in Baja California, reported that the temperature reached in Mexicali, this August 14 of the current year, was 50.2 degrees Celsius, being the highest so far this summer.

According to the records of the Baja California Peninsula Basin Agency (OCPBC) dating from 1948, this temperature breaks the record for the maximum temperature in that municipality, which was 49.4 degrees Celsius, one August but 1981.

However, it is worth mentioning that in general, the highest temperature was 52 degrees on July 28, 1995. Other data indicate that during 2015 and 2019, temperatures of 49 degrees Celsius also occurred in the months of August.

The director general of the OCPBC, Rafael Sanz Ramos, added that according to the forecast of the National Meteorological System (SMN), an agency dependent on CONAGUA, there are no favorable signs, in the sense that weather conditions are coming that reduce extreme heat, for which exhorts the population to heed the indications of the Civil Protection authorities, mainly in Mexicali and its valley.

"Let's remember that the summer season is from July to September, so it is important to stay informed and take the proper precautions," said the federal official.

In the midst of a historic heat wave in the West, the mercury in Death Valley, Calif., surged to a searing 130 degrees on Sunday afternoon, possibly setting a world record for the highest temperature ever observed during the month of August.

If the temperature is valid, it would also rank among the top-three highest temperatures ever measured on the planet at any time and may, in fact, be the highest.

It has been 100f, plus or minus a couple of degrees here in Grass Valley for a while now. Not too bad if you can hide from the heat, but the crews fighting the "Jones fire" in steep terrain just a couple of miles north of me must be suffering!

My house is 1/4 south of the mandatory evacuation line! Fortunately, the local airport is a base for the air tankers that seem to be helping win this battle.

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

I wish you all the luck AKgringo!

I've been seeing lots of houses burned out on the news this morning.
Make sure that you've got your weeds, grass, and plants cut short in case those embers head your direction.
