Final Baja trip episode.
Hi Folks,
Just wanted to share my last video from our March 2020 trip. Love to hear your thoughts opinions? If I made any errors let me know of course
respectfully. If you have more info related to where we travelled I'd love to hear what you know?

Thanks for the video!
I had not seen a video of the Pioneer Mine Trail drive before... only some photos. That road was the first road to Gonzaga Bay in the mid 1950s...
following a mine cart trail from the Pioneer Mine to Molino de Lacy (by Punta Final resort) where the ore was processed.
If you wanted to edit some spellings, I noticed only three (here are the correct spellings:
Punta Chivato
Punta Final
San Borja

Darn, how embarrassing, spelling has never been a strong suit for me. I appreciate the corrections, unfortunately YouTube doesn't have a way to
replace an uploaded video with a new one. I would have to delete it permanently and upload a new correct one. I think I'll have to just live with my
mistakes. I will make the corrections in the video description.

The ore mill was originally called Molino de San Francisquito (after the bay nearby (Ensenada de San Francisquito, the bigger half of 'Gonzaga Bay').
William Lacy died and is buried at his mill. Punta Final (resort) was originally Puerto de San Francisquito, not to be confused with other one near El
Barril!

Hey, no big deal amigo! You asked for corrections, and other than the Baja norte border being shown before Santa Rosalia and those tiny spelling
things, it was a nice production! You should be proud!!
Mission Santa María is about 15 miles east of Cataviña, and next to the Pioneer Mine Road, one of the toughest in Baja! It is west from Punta Final.

Cool video. Here is the route for the Pioneer Mine Trail.
We made it about 1/4 of the way going North to South when my kid's bike overheated with a radiator problem. So we turned around. It was very rocky,
but doable on bikes. You have to have a pretty capable 4x4 to do it.

Thanks! And thanks for the route I have it but others may want it. Moto's can definitely make it no problem and sound
fun.

I am curious about what dirt roads you were on in the video (besides the Pioneer Mine road)?

5 of us went through north to south on M/C about 10 years ago. I had been told it was called the "rock trail".
super rocky but fun.....
at the time I thought it would be M/C only from here on out.

The Bill Nichols Trail (south of Puertecitos west to El Rosario) is also called the Rock Trail, isn't it?
I wonder when Mina de San Francisquito became known as the "Pioneer Gold Mine"? It first is called that by Howard Gulick's map (1956), I think...
Howard interviewed locals like Arturo Grosso (Laguna Chapala) and Dick Daggett back in those days for data on the old mines, the Camino Real, and
other such things. Both Grosso and Daggett worked mines and mills in the area.
Daggett operated the King Richard Mine (also called La Josefina) south of the Pioneer Mine, along the road to Calamajué.

Yes, many names. Near San Felipe we have multiple names for the common trails. Persons that do not know the real name just make up something. Then
they pass it along and that is what we all get.
I like a names that have prominent place along the way, maybe a destination, or a geographical name that INEGI uses.
I am obviously in the minority
I plead guilty to creating names like Pinta Pass E and W..
