I never knew much about the man, or even the off-roading community but back in 1970 I built a knock off buggy on a 1966 VW pan.

The smiles per dollar ratio was incredible!

If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space!

"Could do better if he tried!" Report card comments from most of my grade school teachers. Sadly, still true!

What a legacy and what a life!

My family owned two Meyers Manx VWs... no photos of the first (1968), but the second (1972) became my first car to drive and take to Baja, once I was 16...

Here it is northbound from Gonzaga Bay in 1975...

Loosing a lot of legends from that era... They built the cars and racing that we enjoy today. What an amazing design and they are very sought after buggy still today.

I'm in the final stages of a complete build on a 1964 pan. It's been a lot of fun. It should be going south this summer.

My first car was a 1962 VW dune buggy I bought for $200 from a friend of my dad's, with my own money!. Not sure if it was a Meyers or not. I loved it, mom hated it. She actually subsidized me to sell it and buy a 1963 VW bug for $600 a couple months later. I put up $300, and she put up $300. A deal is a deal. Sold the dune buggy for $700 to a guy that worked with me at the local Safeway. That was only the first of many more VWs in my earlier life.
