Tragedy at the Sahuaros Gigantes south of San Felipe
Really sad report. Seems strange. How does one get lost in these Giants?

So they went into Valle de Los Gigantes? The road is pretty defined thru there but it kind of sounds like they weren't in the actual park.

plenty of inconsistencies
reports say the couple turned off at km 11 or km 14 and another says km 31
one says they went in 6 km, another says 3 km
it was also reported that locals saw the woman in just her bikini wandering kinda lost along the highway
if so, why did nobody offer help?

As Harald days, the facts are not clear. If you drove away from the highway, why would you not walk back to the highway on the dirt road you were on?

unprepared and obviously made a few bad choices. I don't understand how both of them could walk for two hours and not get to the highway or realize
where their car got stuck in relation to the highway or other ranchos they had passed. It is sad that they were prepared for sight-seeing fun and
ended tragically. The article stated there have been 24 heat related deaths near Mexicali this year.

I disagree. I have taken quite a few rental econo cars on desert dirt roads.
When traveling, rental cars are the only offroad car available. I always say, the best offroad vehicle is a rental car. abuse it and return it.
You just need to buy bottled water before you go offroad.

Lot of speculation and misinformation above.
This happened just a few km from us. It was an extremely hot day with no wind. Not a good day to be outside let alone lost and on foot. Unfortunately,
the result was not unexpected.

What I do know
The original report was the search area was west of Hwy5 Km ~21 Percebu. The search included volunteers (to many apparently), fire department,
Marines, and included a helicopter.
KM 11 is wrong and Km 14 is the road to Valley of the Giant Saguaros. That place has been locked up for quite a time and not accessible.

Indeed... some bad location details on Facebook.
The giant cactus there are also not saguaro or sahuaro, but cardón.
I also read Km. 31 or 32 mentioned. Both are roads going to the sulfur mine area and were the original camp access roads for Bahía Santa María and
Nuevo Mazatlán, before the Hwy. 5 roadbed went in, in 1982.

I know I said west of Percebu. Actually the grid search was 2 miles west of KM26. The a the fire people found her in that area.

The title of the story should be lost woman west of Km 26. But the journalists decided to make up a different story that tells nothing about where it
happened.
