San Diego Car Rental you can take into Baja?

Does anybody know of any car rental agencies that are allowing their cars into Baja at this time? They used to, but due to Covid none that I can find are allowing their cars to cross the border.

I called them thanks for the tip. They are renting, but $1400 for 7 days, plus .40 cents a mile. I'm going to keep looking, but thank you.

Never took one to Baja. But several of the large guys use to let you take cars to Sonora. Pick up at the Phoenix or Tucson airports. It wasn't super expensive. Haven't tried in years though.

Be careful about any rate that is quoted to you over a phone call. A couple of years ago I was checking for a family member that wanted to fly to Southern CA, rent a car and drive south to join me.

The rate quoted for the car was pretty fair, but it did not include the insurance charge that would have been added at the rental agency. We did not wind up renting anything.

Walk across and rent on the other side, I've done it several times at different crossings and it's pretty easy.

Did you reserve it first or wing it?

I just showed up there and all was good. The airport at TJ has all the companies congregated in pretty much one place so there are some choices.

I'm a bit hesitant about flying to San Diego and crossing the border without a reservation for a car. I get it, but man that's a leap of faith! In Mexico no less.

Not a big leap of faith. You'll be able to get one no problem.

If you are worried, just make a reservation.

probably pretty easy to book in advance.
dont know how mex is doing, but here in USA car rentals are crazy market, prices all over the place due to car shortage during covid, after all the agencies sold their cars....

Just flew into SandyEggo a few months ago, rented at Enterprise, told them I was going to Baja, no problema. Only increased cost in the required insurance.
