Telcel

One can buy a TelCel simcard at OXXO. How do you get on a plan? Can you do it over the phone once you get the simcard in?
Does a clerk at the store do it?
We will first flying into San Jose Del Cabo next week, can a simcard be purchased at the airport and the chosen plan initiated?

The first thing I would do is check with your US carrier on usage in MX.

My AT&T plan gives me unlimited voice, text, and data in North America.

That way ppl can reach you on your regular number.

We checked, it is less expensive to use TelCel, plus the simcard we have to buy to use our service internationally has to be purchased at a T mobile shop, the closest is a two hour round trip drive, (we done be rural)

We purchased the sim card, had it installed and paid for the plan all at an OXXO. Took about 10 minutes and we were ready to go. You will have to recharge the card at the end of the time frame (Amigo 150 is 26 days) or after you use all the plan data, whichever comes first. You will get a text to your phone when this occurs. Again at any OXXO. It's a pain recharging at OXXO from Canada so we do it online using our Visa card info.

You don't want a "plan". A plan, in Telcel speak, is something you sign a contract for and is billed monthly.
What you want is what they call a "paquete"- pay as you go, no contract.

Also accomplished at any Telcel store.

Amigo Sin Limite paquete. Once you have a plan, you can download Telcel app on the phone, recharge when due on the phone. 200 pesos, ($10), 30 days unlimited calls to US/CAN/MEX. 3 GB included, if needed. Pretty hard to beat.

You have to say Paquette when you buy credit at Oxxo or use mitelcel.com to associate the number and buy a paquette that says lasts 14 days or 30 days.

I have a Telcel SIM in my ipad. I recharge it at the Telcel store with data only 200 pesos and it works on T-Mobile in the US.

Used WhatsApp for at least 10 years.

I expense my cell phone. Plus there are no additional fees anywhere in NA.

Go to the store and get a sim card there and have the clerk explain the several Amigo plans. You can pay there for the first time period , Then go to Oxxo for refils. Open an account in mi telcel for getting your time and pesos. You can also add on the same site insead of going to Oxxo.

Telcel store is recommended over OXXO
sometimes there is additional tweaking on your phone needed
don't ask me how I know
only the Telcel centers can do that - quick and fast
the OXXO girls are not able to do that.

Once you have your Amigo Sin Limite Paquette if you need more data, you can add a unlimited two hour session for 15 pesos. It's a smoking deal. Buy it online https://www.telcel.com/personas/telefonia/amigo/paquetes-end...
