The 1963 Chevy Baja Run TV ad, plus LOG BOOK!
The log book PDF from 1963 was posted on a Facebook page (Baja Overlanding) along with the 2 minute TV ad... I saved them to VivaBaja.com, putting the
link in the Historic Photos section:

Here they are:
LOG BOOK (very interesting, with sketches):

The Sky Ranch mentioned in the log was the Santa María Sky Ranch... which was located near the Misión Hotel (former Desert Inn/ La Pinta/ El
Presidente hotel). Odd that they didn't stay in San Ignacio, but drove to almost dark, by the volcano for the night. Reminds me of our 1966 trip when
we also passed through San Ignacio, but it was already dark then. My dad was in a hurry to get to Mulegé and go fishing!

On some days they only went 75 miles that's about as fast as we were going into Mission Santa Maria.
My brother use to take a 3 week vacation near Xmas back in the 60s and would drive from San Diego to Cabo, stay 4 or 5 days then head home. He had a
Ford F100 straight 6 and manual tranny, 2 wheel drive. He had that truck for about 30 years. Low maintenance.

On that old road, 100 miles a day was good progress!
