Border crossing Question
Does anybody have any exerience going south crossing with new and used
furniture/appliances? I am bringing down a trailer full of mixed things.
It is all for my home in San Quintin. Thanks for any help.

If you are buying property and moving to Mexico, even if part time, that would mean you have a residential visa and not just the tourist permit (FMM).
The consulate where you obtained that visa will instruct you about the one-time move (duty-free) of your personal property to your new Mexican home.

No, it doesn't mean he has a resident visa (although of course he might and he should). Lots of foreigners own property and live in Mexico part time
on a tourist visa. They don't however, attempt to drive in with a trailer load full of furniture and appliances.

you drive into the inspection declare area
they value the load and you pay
ONLY pesos so bring pesos
everything you import should be in the trailer NOT the truck and trailer

A trailer load of furniture and appliances imported into Mexico would be subject to duty, paid at the border., unless you get the resident exemption
mentioned by DK, above. I think around 18% of the value of the goods.

Thanks all, we will be working on our resident visa, but our FMM seems to
work, as we have been bringing idems down and stoping to declare.
But it has been in the truck only. Not sure why, it can't be in truck and trailer?
But will try to keep it all on trailer! Seems best early! Does anybody know if Sunday is any differant than the rest of the week?

Interesting... did they charge you import duties on the items you declared or just ignore them? We have heard from several people what David posted is
accurate and there is a one time allowance free of duty if you have permanent or temporary residency to bring in major furniture like beds, sofas,
tables, tv's etc. We have brought a lot of stuff down, but it would be viewed as items we would normally vacation with and most likely driving back
out with.

i dont know...its a rule at the border
i would guess 2 parts 2 imports
ive had to put truck stuff on top of the trailer until i drove across to import
and ive imported alot

My last crossing resulted in a very close inspection from the new customs person I did not have anything that could be charged a duty so and the
result was a longer than usual delay. The new customs people have new uniforms and I was told they are military replacements for the corrupt previous
ones.

JD, yes they did charge each time I have stoped. each time it is a little
