Palapa roofs
I have a question, how long can one expect a well constructed palapa roof to last? What is the current average cost and any palapero references in the
Vizcaino biosphere?
Two dirt roads diverged in Baja and I, I took the one less graveled by......

depending on built quality (how dense the leafs are stacked, how they are fastened, angle of roof, underside painted with polyurethane or not)
depending on weather conditions (wind, moisture, rain)
the last between 10 and 30 years
expect minor repairs after 10 years (if not repaired, they will fall a part much faster)
they have become VERY expensive where Gringos live

My experience is in BCS they last until the next Hurricane. The Cabo average is every 2 years long term, so 2 -3 years is about what you can expect.

Since you are in the Viscaino area, Marios Restaurant, a mile north of the road into GN has one of the most fantastic palapa roofs, and one of the
largest, I have seen.
I bet they would know who to contact to construct and maintain a palapa roof. It is a thing of beauty to see and food has never disappoint ed. Some
live music on the weekends adds to the ambience, but that roof wows me every time.

It depends on the various critters that can move into the leafs.
Just today i had some palapa sprayed with a neurotoxin insecticide by a traveling bug spraying crew from TJ. they feel it should kill bugs for a year
and a half.

I put the word out for Palapa roof prices per sq meter in La Paz/Los Cabos
$75 USD
$80 USD per sq foot
there were lower offers and some of $100 USD
since Vizcaino is still mainly Mexican you should able to have nice roof built for around $50 USD
